Need Turnip and Radish Recipes

Hi, Moms! I get a basket once a week from a local farmer, and she has included tons of turnips and radishes. We don't like either very much, but I'm trying to eat what she gave us and not waste it. Does anyone have good recipes for turnips or radishes - preferably with some other ingredients or seasonings that disguise the flavor a bit? Thanks!!

You can roast both with some sea salt and olive oil. The radishes will take on a whole flavor.

I really like turnips and I cook them with greens and bacon (and actually a little bacon fat). They can also be boild and mashed with butter, salt and pepper.

I love turnip, and this is one of my favourite ways to eat it. Boil turnips and carrotts together. Drain and mash, adding butter and brown sugar. I also do a root veggie casserole with turnip, parsnip, potatoe, onion, carrott, garlic, beef broth and lots of seasonings. I usually eat radishes plain, but sometimes I add them to potatoe or macaroni salad.

Ok... did you realize you can saute' the radishes? We slice them and saute' them with a bit of garlic, and ALL the fire goes away! I've also added them to other stove-top dishes, and again, if they are cooked, the fire disappears.

My son just made a REALLY great stew the other night, using turnips instead of potatoes.... once again, once they were cooked, you couldn't tell the difference between turnips and potatoes. (I can't really give you the recipe... he made it as he went..... beef cubes, tossed with some salt and smoked paprika, then browned..... remove the beef, then saute' onion, carrots, turnips, celery, and cremini mushrooms. Add the beef, and beef stock (1-2 quarts, depending on how much veggies and meat). He also added 1 or 2 bottles of Shiner beer.....) Anyway, it was really delicious!

Pickle it.
Here in Hawaii, where there are many delicious Asian foods... radishes and turnips are routinely pickled. It is a cultural dish and very common here and even restaurants have it in their dishes or as a side accompaniment. And many local companies, even sell it in jars in the grocery stores. It is good.
There are many versions.

You can stir-fry the radishes with other vegetables. The texture would be similar to broccoli stems.
I have also seen radishes shredded and cooked in dough , kind of like an egg roll but I can't remember what it was called.

Boil/steam the radishes-- it makes them taste sweet rather than spicy like they do raw. Peel them a bit first. They turn into fun little purpley balls and taste pretty good. My kids pretend they are Peter Rabbit stealing them from Mr McGregor and eat more that way :)
