Essure Procedure - Streamwood,IL

my sister had it done after her 5th kid, five years ago. She had no complications and no pregnancy.

I had the procedure in January and the resulting test to confirm that my tubes are blocked. Each time the actual process took less than 15 mins. For me, the pain was minor but note everyone is different. Also be sure it's what you want because it is not reversible. I'm very glad I did it and have had no issues at all!

I had it done about 2 1/2 years ago. it was a medically necessary procedure for me. I am so happy with the results. It was painless. You can resume normal activity after 24 hours and tests confirm it's working within 2 1/2 months of having the procedure done. TMI SPOILER/ALERT-On a more serious note, after having intercourse there is no where for the semen to travel up, so you will have to urinate immediately after or count on being drenched.

My BF had it done and loves it. She went into the doc's office, had it done, went to eat Sushi with her husband, came home 50 miles away, slept that afternoon, got up the next day, had some slight cramping, went out and resumed life as normal.

She is very happy with her decision and money spent so far.

A friend of mine had it done, her dr also did it in the hospital and it was a good thing too. When they were doing the procedure, they perferated her uterus somehow. Her enitre abdomen filled up with fluid and blood. They had to wait then and she laid like that for an entire day, in pain. The next day they had to do a tubal on her.

I've heard more bad stories than good, so no, I wouldn't get it done. I agree with a prior poster. We have to carry and birth the babies, our husbands should have to take care of the birth control.

I have heard good and bad stories about Essure... some people have had very bad experiences with the metal coils working there way through the fallopian tube, or scar tissue not forming enough to completely block your tubes. Overall, a vasectomy is a simpler procedure and more "tried and true" - I know that Essure has been done in other countries for years - but it is still fairly new here.

To the poster that states that vasectomy and tubal are reversible - well I have to say quite simply whether you do a tubal ligation, vasectomy or Essure - you should consider it PERMENANT - if you think you will want a reversal down the road - don't do it - you are not ready! Yes, they CAN be reversed - but NO they are not meant to be and not always successful - and for a woman who reverses a tubal the risk of ectopic pregnancy goes up considerably!

I don't know to much about the Essure procedure, but the thought of sticking anything that will remain there permanently seems scary. My husband had a vasectomy done a few years ago. It is less invasive for men to have it done and I figured since I had to be pregnant and had the pain of childbirth, this was the least he could do. It took literally 15 minutes with one stitch. He was told to rest all weekend with ice every few hours on the area. Well after day 2 of doing nothing he was ready to get off the couch and do something. We have had at least 5 couples that went to the same dr and all had the same experience. In and out, little after pain and done.

the thing I would be worried about is that it is absolutely not reversible, which getting your tubes tied and a vasectomy would be.

Every woman is different but I would advise against it! Much easier for your Hubby to have a vasectomy. Lots of complications regarding any permanent procedure for a woman!!!!!

Thanks for the question. I've been wondering about that myself. I'm not quite to that point, but close. I'm still not sure when we get to that point weather it's going to be me or my hubby to get fixed. Anyway, don't know or have any advice, just wanted to say thanks for the question.

You should check with your physician first. I actually just went to my OBGYN, who does the procedure. She actually does not do it in the office. She does it at the hospital, and does general anestesia. So, the process is not always as easy as the promos seem. Also, the other part that I don't like about it is that if you were to get pregnant, the pregnancy occurrs in the tube. Which means surgery and a possibly a dangerous situation. My physician actually said, do you know about vasectomys? So, that's the direction we are headed in. In terms of recovery, it seemed easy enough to handle with slight bleeding. I do have one girlfriend that had the procedure done, and she absolutely swears by it. She did say that it was a little uncomfortable, but admits that she has a super high threshold.

I considered Essure but I found a forum online and some of the complications that people had really scared me so for now I haven't done anything. I know that many people have had success but I know it's not for me. Good luck with whatever you decide.

There is no pain! I would recommend it to anyone. It is basically about the same as a long pap smear with some drugs to relax you. It couldn't be easier.

My sister-in-law just had this done last month. She explained the pain as a little worse than a pap. And she was walking around and carying her 3 year old by 4 that afternoon. The following day she had cramps - same as period cramps and by the 3rd day she was back to normal. The process took about 15 minutes. She was very pleased with the entire process.
