Essure- Has Anyone Had This Done?

We are looking into either me having the Essure procedure or my hubby having a vasectomy. Anyone have experience with the Essure- where they put coils in your fallopian tubes. Then your body just grows into the coils to prevent the egg from moving down the tube. It's an alternative to tubal ligation that can be done in the doc's office.

Hubby & I neither one mind having the procedures, but want to get more info on mine if we go that way. We've got plenty of family for reference for the vasectomy, but since the Essure is relatively new, we're at a loss.

THanks!

I personally think it's so much easier for the man to get a vasectomy. I'm not a man, but all my married friends husbands have had it done (we're in our 40's). They say it only takes a few minutes and as far as pain, they've hurt themselves worse building a deck in the backyard or changing spark plugs on a car. It's a snip as opposed to something more invasive or foreign being put in the woman's body. That's just my opinion.

I hope you get some great responses.

I don't know about Essure, but if it is new, that could mean bad effects down the line......As for the hubby, much easier for him to have it done and not a big ordeal.
Good luck on your decision.

My best friend and her hubby have decided to not have any more children.
She did extensive research on sterilization proceedures for herself. She has an appointment in a few weeks for the Essure proceedure. She felt it was the most natural, effective way to take care of not wanting to become pregnant. She currently uses the Nuva Ring Birth control and has been very happy but wants a permanent solution, she is very happy with the decision.

My daughter had this done and the whole thing went great! Everything was done in the doctor's office and worked as they said it was. Good Luck!

I had it done in October/November and am happy with how it went. I was fully recovered within 24 hours. We opted for Essure over the vasectomy because it has fewer potential problems. I would highly, highly recommend Essure to anyone who is certain she is done having children.

I haven't had it done yet but inquired about it and it's been around for 6-7 yrs now according to my doc. They don't put you under and you get to watch the procedure. You are given pain medicine so you don't feel it. She told me once the procedure is done you are back to normal, no recovery period. I'm not exactly sure where theya are in the tubes just that it takes 3 months for your tissue to grow through the springs/coils so you need to continue birth control for 3 months, after that you are sterile. I know some women who have decided to have their tubals reversed so they could have children again. I don't hink this could be done with Essure since tissue grows through the coil and closes up the tube/hole permanantly.

my mother had this done recently and i thought it was great. she was up and moving that day and was back to her work out within a few days. she even asked to not be put out for it, she didnt have any complaints about being awake for it. although i wouldnt recommend that for everyone, i do think essure is better than a vasectomy. my father (my parents are married to other people) had a vasectomy and it took him a lot longer to recover than it did for my mom. hope this helps
