Essure? - Memphis,TN

I just signed the paperwork at my OB today to have the Essure procedure done. I chose this over a tubal at my doctor's highest recommendation. Does anyone have experience with Essure? My only issue with it is that I hate the idea of having *anything* implanted in my "feminine parts." It gives me goosebumps... fear of the coils coming out, etc. But my doc, who I trust implicitly, swears by it. I have 30 days to change my mind before they do it... any input welcome!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

thanks to all for mentioning the metal allergy, i brought it up with my doctor, who's a friend of mine on FB, sent him that link - note please, that article was very thorough but is 5 years old. since then, Essure has removed the nickel allergy:

the other issues i am still taking into consideration, but open surgery is an especially high risk for me as i'm diabetic, and i trust my ob's opinion. for now, i'm still leaning towards the procedure. he said he's been doing them for 10 years and has only had 3 patients who had any kind of problem with the coils; one was a women who was in a car wreck and it dislodged hers and he had to fix it.

Do you have any skin allergies or sensitivities to metallics? For instance, if you wear leather sandals with metal buckles that are nickel or copper, would the nickel or copper (or other metal) cause eczema or other skin rash? If yes then DO NOT get Essure. You would have the same sort of allergic reaction but internally.

Hello,
I had the Essure procedure done in my Dr's office 5 years ago. I have not had any problems at all. For me it was a great alternative to the traditional tubal.

There are many "horror" stories out there but there are also a lot of good ones. Do what you feel is best for you and your body!

If you have any questions, please feel to PM me, and I would be happy to talk to you.

I had it done a few years ago. I have not had any problems so far. I have read some "horror" stories but they mostly are complaints about heavier periods. I always had heavy painful periods so it's no different now. I do stay on the pill because of my PMS, heavy bleeding and cramps.

I was suppose to get Essure last year in December my OBGYN said, it was safe, i could back to work in 3 days, she showed me the coil and how harmless it was, she said she had been doing this for 9 years. She made it sound like it was the best thing in the world. When i asked her about getting a tubal( which is what i wanted to begin with), she went thur all the bad things about having that done. How they could puncture my intestines, the hospital stay, the long time for recovery, the time of work i would miss. Something happen that I could not have it done at that month. So i put it off.

Now I have an appointment in May to talk to a different doctor about getting the Essure. After reading the link that Nicole put. I will not get this done. I am going to ask for a tubal. I bet they will try to talk me into the Essure. I am soooo happy that u asked this question. Thanks

Yes, thank you for asking this question. We are done having kids too and I have been looking into it. I know one person who's had it done and she has had no issues. I think *most* people don't have issues. The stats on the article Nicole posted actually show that. However, when there are issues they're obviously pretty nasty. The pill has never agreed with me (I've tried 5 or 6 different ones over the years) and everything else seems like it has hormones in it except the old style of IUDs. I'm convinced the best route is for hubby to have the vasectomy. I have researched and researched, there is just no perfect birth control option for women, permanent or otherwise. :(
