I know there had been q's in regards to Essure who has had the procedure any side effects etc...So to make it easier I thought i'd put this out there for all you women who have questioned it.I had it done on the 9th,went in 2 hrs before to prep signed consent forms, lab work, urine test, spoke to performing DR.,anthesiaologist,IV put in thne came time for a relaxer 30 min. before that hepled calm the nerves, was taken to surgical suite put under took about 23 min, returned to recovery room for a while to get woken up,blood pressure monitored for a good hr.before getting up then was sent to discharge room still in hospital bed to get more vitals get up use the restroom must void before discharge so I did had blood totally normal was queasy needed food and something to drink never threw up thank goodness.Discharged roughly 2 hrs later after surgery.Came home tried to rest did as much as I could had some mild cramping hardly any blood loss not even close to a period. The next day was tired, felt dizzy aminly from lack of rest and hydration getting up to bf baby and taking care of my 4 kiddos that day they were great helped me they understood mommy didn't feel well.I did no house work except feed them then the dishes later that evening rested the evening. Now today i'm wiped out need rest but the pain pills aren't letting me rest,I don't really need the pain pills there is no pain but just incase I have pain or get pain I would like to of had them in my system already. So I left to a baby shower it was great no I didn't take a pill beofre driving skipped this morning and afternoon so for i'm stable and no pain just a tad but of bleeding from doing to much at one time. Now i'm resting for the day.So to sum it all up for you it was a great procedure little down time it all depends how the medication effects you.See my urologist in 2 weeks then have a dye test in 3 months to mkae sure they took

So What Happened?

here is why I opted to get this done well for many reasons that out weighed another pregnancy...Pregnancies became harder for my body to handle I never did have a preterm baby or a bay born with defects they were all healthey and normal it's the pain my body went through then after wards hemmorage didn't want to risk another labor and delivery all naturally vaginally born, what if something did happen to our marriage I don't want to have to deal with a father of 4 and another babies daddy 1 is good enough fo me,hormones can't deal with the hormonal bc's,didn't want to rely on just the spermicides you insert anymore to kill the sperm before sex,i'm 32 don't want anymore babies I feel that i'm past that plus hubby is 6 yrs older than I and he is getting too old to have kids.Ya theres people who wait till they are past 35 not us the risk after having them late in life wasn't worth it to me.So that is why I did it not him
There is going to be risks,I didn't want my tubes tied and burned because of the side effects I always hear about how menopause is more diffucult with tubes being tied,r so that is why I did this route. It was dicussed with my Midwife,Urologist and my Primary care provider before I had this done.I wanted to make sure it was right for me to do.I'll try to update when possible about how i'm feeling in a few weeks after I see my Dr. again

I recently got my tubes done for the same reasons as you. My doctor explained the 2 ways that she could do it. Friends told me horror stories about tubaligations and I went home and read a bunch of horror stories about the Essure on the internet. I was scared up either way it go. I just knew that I didnt want any kids ever again. Wished I wouldve had it done at the time of my last cesection. But I wasnt 100% sure.. I learned to not listen to people because just because they had a bad/good experience with it, dont mean you will too. Everyone is different and everybody dont have a good doctor. I had the tubal because it is effective immediately.

I would love to get Essure. However for my insurance I have to pay my entire deductible and then 20% of all charges over and above my deductible. My OB can do it right in there office so there would not be any hospitals involved. I just can't afford it right now. I absolutely HATE BC pills. I was going to use the ring but my OB is not real excited about that idea since I am 40. Thought about getting an IUD but have no desire to bleed 3-6 months after having it inserted. Not sure what other options there are. Husband really doesn't want to get a vasectomy so he keeps putting it off and putting it off. Uggggggh!

Congrats on your procedure and I am so glad that it was affordable for you and has been a success. Sorry for my rant. :o)

I can't ever get it done because I have contact allergies to the materials they use. If I'm allergic on my skin then there's no way I'll agree to put that stuff inside of me.

I've heard that a regular tubal ligation is safer but I've also heard that a vasectomy is the absolute best and most reliable method of permanent sterilization.

I'm surprised you had to go to a "surgical suite" and get "knocked out" to have an in-office procedure done and then you couldn't leave until two hours later for. Very odd all around.

Yes! I got essure done too...It felt like I was having a mild period right afterwards. I went home and took a nap, and was totally normal the next day! I never needed any of the pain pills they gave me, and they did it right in the OB's office! I just got my dye test done about 6 weeks ago and everything looked good!
I dont think a vasectomy would have had less recovery time for sure! My husband offered many times but I knew how quick the recovery for essure was and I think we paid about 200 out of pocket for everything!
So glad it worked for you!

I decided against Essure because of the 3 month wait to see if it worked. I had a tubal ligation in October and was glad to know that it was effective immediately. Glad you had a positive experience.

I thought about Essure.. until I researched it and found all the negative possibilities. For me, having a Tubal ligation was the right way to go. They only have to make 2 very small incisions now. It's been 7 months now with no issues at all. I hope your experience is a good one. A friend of mine did Essure last year, and she's had complications.

I got the Essure done. Right in the docs office. They did not put me under nor did they give me an IV to give drugs. I took a nap when I got home and the next day I had some cramping like I was on my period. It's been 3 months and I can't tell I have had it done.

I still take BC pills to help regulate my mood and lessen heavy painful periods.

NEVER for me... vasectomies cost less, are much less risky, and have a faster recovery. my husband would never have asked me to get it done either... He got his vasectomy over 4 years ago. I have four kids, too... btw.
