Epidural Spot Still Sore

Hi Ladies,
I was wondering if anyone else has had a similar issue. I had a baby 4 weeks ago and the spot that I got my epidural in, is still rather sore and seems to be getting more sore as the days go on... not all the time but mainly when I stretch my back or arch it. Anyone else have this happen to them? I am getting a wee bit concerned but don't want to go running to my midwife if it's something that commonly happens. I want to start working out again but don't want to do anything just yet with out knowing if this is normal.
Thanks in advance! :)

It will probably start to feel better soon, but my daughter is 2.5 now, and my epidural spot is still sore if you touch it, its like a permanent bruise. Whenever it bugs me I remind myself that having my beauitiful daughter in my life was worth it, and the 9.2 lbs that she was would have really hurt coming out of me, but I didn't feel it!

Sorry...I just wrote a response about episiotomies, not epidurals. Ignore, please! :)

I don't think it can hurt to call your midwife and ask her opinion. Based on your answers to her questions, she might advise you to have it checked out. I know a lot of women who have suffered unnecessary pain thinking that it was part of a normal recovery, when it turned out they were actually suffering from an infection. Good luck!

I went through the exact same thing (and only with my second delivery / epidural - not my first), so I was also concerned. It hurt the most when I arched forward. It eventually went away on it's own... I can't remember when, but it lasted quite a while. I want to say 2 months. It's now totally fine - and I believe it was before the 3 month mark.... I truly think it was the first 2-3 month period.... congrats on your new baby!

Hi J.!
I've never had an epidural.
But, my first instinct is to ask you DOCTOR. Midwife may know something about the sore spot, but it may need a doctor to treat it. Infections are very easy to come by, and why let that happen? "A wee bit concerned" is your instinct talking and its best to act on it....you will need to learn this, and not worry if a doctor or whoever professional thinks you're "overly cautious". Just follow your instinct -- get an opinion.
All the best,
N.

I would just call your primary care doctor or midwife and ask them about it if you are concerned. Your back is vital to you and you dont want to deal with unnecessary pain if you don't have to.

I remember being very sore for a while after. I think even up to 3 months with my daughter. My son was too long ago but I do remember it being a while too.
I don't remember when I started working out again after my son, so I wouldn't know how safe it was.
I'm sure your midwife wouldn't mind you calling her.
