Ok My son is almost 8 months old now and I had an epidural during delivery. They had to put it in twice. The first time only half numb. This was my third pregnancy and third epidural. So fast forward to now. My back still bothers me in that spot. It's not really painfull the only way I can describe it is a creepy feeling. Like if my hubby rubs my back in that stop it just feels weird. So if anyone out there know what I could do to help this problem that would be awesome!
Thank you everyone! I wish I could make it go away but I feel better knowing it's not something in my head! Hopefully it will gradually get better.

I had this same issue after my first child. I asked the doctor about it and they said it's normal. There's nothing you can really do about it. Mine did finally go away after about a year. So hopefully you just have a few more months of it. They said it jus effects some people that way.
I know it's not much help but at least you know you aren't the only one.

I can totally relate!! I had the epideral headaches and all... Anyway, everytime my back was touched in the epi-area, it would send a pain through my back. I had my boys in Oct'04 and in Dec'06, I had some other back problems and began seeing a chiro. I also mentioned the epi problem to him and since I've been seeing him, I haven't had any other problems!! He did an MRI and found no nerve damage so it's nothing too scary, but since he's helping, I guess I dont have any other advice than to check out a chiro...

Ahh, yes! I'm not alone??? I too had an epi with both of my kids. My son came first and I had to have it inserted THREE times before they finally got it right! First time was a half block, second time in a vein, 3rd time they finally got it but I was already 9cm dilated so it wasn't much use by then and I felt everything during delivery :( I had my daughter 14 mos later and my epidural worked PERFECTLY with her labor/delivery and honestly didn't even know when she came out!
But yes, my epi spot still is sore and my youngest is 20 months now. And I agree that it's not exactly painful but it is a weird feeling. Almost like my back feels like mush when that spot gets pushed. Just a funny feeling. Hopefully it will get back to normal sometime soon but I'm not gonna hold my breath.

I had an epidural with my daughter and I don't remember having any problems with the site where they put it in, but they didn't have to do it a 2nd time. I wonder if it is a nerve in that area that is giving you problems. Maybe you could have an x-ray done if it keeps bothering you. I chose to have my son natural because I didn't like that it took 6 hours to wear off and I was nauseated from it so I got sick during delivery and they had to use forceps to help deliver her. Sorry I'm not much help. I hope you find out what is causing this.

I can't really tell you much about what to do for it, but I can empathize. I had my son a year ago (working on #2 now), and mine still hurts too. They had to do it twice, and I can point to exactly where it went in. If I push on the spot, it gives me chills and makes me sort of arch my back or wiggle around. I remember it hurting a lot when it was in and I leaned back on it. Anyway, it is annoying enough that I am thinking of going without this time...

I'm not sure what you should do besides ask your doctor (sorry), I just wanted to say that "they" should really explain more about epidurals and their side effects. I worked at a law firm and we had a med. malpractice case where because of her epidural a woman can no longer hold her pee (I know there is a proper word for that, can;t think of it, sorry... another side effect of child birth; your brain gets mushy! haha). The thing is she didn't have a case b.c its a possible side effect of the epidural. I mean, they are sticking a needle into your spinal cord, so there has to be side effects... Anyway, I did plenty of research, probably too much, and decided to try child birth without one... needless to say after being induced, and after about 12 hours of labor the nurses finally talked me into one, and that epidural tech was my BEST FRIEND! haha... I know my c-section scar (after about 23 hours of labor I ended up having a c-section) feels "creepy", but its getting better as time goes by, mayeb your back issue will too?

Hi! Well, I have a son who is now 3 1/2. I had an epidural (I was induced & in labor for 42 1/2 hours!) for the last 11 hours of my labor. They had some trouble getting it in, but only had to stick me once. I do not have any soreness or anything like that, but whenever the weather changes I can feel where they inserted it. It's been over 3 years now & I still have it. I guess it's not going away! I'm 4 months along with my second & am hoping to not have one with this child!

K. you may want to get the okay from your doctor to see a neurologist as it may be nerve damage/ or problems with that . I had a horrible time with my epidural and it had lasting effects to this day, that was 2 years ago. I won't go into it all because yours may be something different , and yours is very minor to what happened with mine but it does sound a like what I experienced. If you ever need assistance or someone to talk to just let me know. Good luck and I hope it will just get better.

I have had four children and somehow managed to have 6 epidurals. Doesn't make sense huh? With my oldest the doctor, lol apparently a skilled one, stuck me then mumbled ooops and decided to redo the epidural. My back needless to say had problems for quite a while after. 19 mos later giving birth to my second daughter he, thank goodness, was not who did the epidural. That was successful, as was the one for my third 13 mos. later. 3 yrs later, I got one with my son born 5mos ago. The dr couldn't get it to go in at first, so he started over and got it to go in fine the second time. So it's been kinda rough every now and then for my back. But all I do is take Aleve. Sadly, this is stuff that's listed on the possible side effects page that they just love for us to sign when we're incoherent from pain. So there's not really much you can do. I just think they should go over it when someone's not in labor so they can understand the possible side effects of a wire being threaded into you spinal cord.

Hey K.,
I don't know what to tell you to fix it, i'm a Massage Therapist and it is not uncommon. Alot of women who have had epidurals still have tenderness in the entrance site years later. Sorry I have no way to fix the problem just thought you might want to know you aren't alone.

My son is 14 months and my spot tingles, falls asleep, and I get a burning feeling there. My doc thinks it could be a pinched nerve or nerve damage but were not sure. I have an appointment on the 13th with a neurologist, He's probably going to make me have an MRI. I'll try to let you know what I find out.

I can not tell you how long after the birth of our daughter that is now 9 it hurt, but it was for SEVERAL years. We have a son that is 3 and I had one with him also but it never bothered me.
Have you tried sitting with a heating pad on your back, or maybe hot showers.
It has been to many years now, but the seems like what I did.
I read that if they don't give it in just the correct spot that it will cause you to hurt in the spot given.
Sorry, I am not much help. BUT I CAN Relate!
