Entertainment Park

Try Sesame Place! It was made with little kids in mind, and has lots of water rides. My 3-year old LOVES it, and we just enjoyed it with a family with a 6-year old and a 1-year old.

Take him to Sesame Place in PA. It is not that far, you can do the trip in one day w/ no problems. There are a ton of both water and dry rides there, and it is totally geared for that age.

Go to the park's website. They should have a list of rides for each age/height group. We took out toddler to Six Flags in Dallas and it was miserable. There just wasn't enough things to do - there were a few rides but not enough to warrant the cost of entering the park plus any food or toys you buy.

Victoria Gardens in the southern part of Central Park! Perfert for the little ones. I took my two-year-old and he loved it. Free for your son.

Also almost every playground in Central Park has some kind of water feature, like a fountain for the kids to spalsh in. I also suggest the playground in Battery Park City. There is a huge sandbox and lots of water features.

To ideas -- the first is Knoebbels Grove, which I haven't been to -- it's in northeastern PA, you can find it online. Apparently you pay per ride, so if your kid isn't into it, you haven't lost a big entrance fee.

But the better idea -- I'd say you HAVE to try it -- is the Land of Make Believe. I'm trying to remember if they have to be 12 or 24 months to ride - their website could tell you. It's such a great place -- really nice waterpark with little and big kids' splash areas, lazy river that you can take your little one on, and waterslides if you're brave. Then they have a whole amusement park of rides for little kids, plus you can visit Santa, pan for gold, ride the train, etc. It's about $20/person, in Hope NJ which is off of I-80, about an hour from the Jersey border.

If you and your husband plan to ride any rides or do anything, I think I woud find a sitter for the toddler.........it will probably be hot, and he'll get cranky.......any rides that they have will be few probably at his age......

So either leave him at home, or find someone to go with you that doesn't like to ride rides and let them babysit while you go on what you want to ride on......

Six Flags is not really that great for little ones like yours. Sesame Place would be the ideal place to take him to. Since my children were little we've been going there. Even my 12year old son likes it still. We didn't go this year and we miss it! Even my husband and I enjoy going there! They are the best! Give it a try!

I agree with the other posters. When we went last year my son could stand but not walk yet and they would not let him on the small kiddie rides unless he could walk. This was even though I would be going on with him.

If you want to try the shore I would recommend Keansburg. It's a small amusment area but has a reallnuce small water park with a seperate area for toddlers

I know this is a little late. For next time. Sesame place is a GREAT place to take little ones. I have been taking my kids for 4 years now. We are going tomorrow for my daughters 8th Birthday. She has been going since 4 and my son since infant now he is 3. I am so excited, we always have a good time. The best times to go is mid week. FYI not lots of people. :)

There is an amusement park in Bristol CT called Lake Compounce. It's the oldest amusement park in the US. It is a very managable size, has a water park and many rides geared toward small kids. You can easily do the whole thing in a day and it's way less crazy than 6 flags. Enjoy.

Six Flags is really about thrill rides, not calm baby attractions. For his age, I'd suggest Sesame Place, or Dutch Wonderland in PA which caters to very young children.

Sesame Place in Longhorne, Pa seems better suited for your child. You will find that there is still a lot she is too small to enjoy, but over all much more age appropriate. Go during the week if that is an option for you as it is a small park and can get overcrowded. Have fun!!!

Sesame Place would prob. be a better bet. It is only an hour from Six Flags in Nj, and prob. on the closer side for you. I think it will be more fun for your son. Have fun!

There is a Sesame Place in Langhorne, PA...I believe it is less that 2 hours drive from where you are. If your goal is really to keep your toddler entertained, it is a better choice than Six Flags.

Depends how far you want to drive. There is Splish Splash on Long Island about 1.5 hours away from NYC.

We went to Six Flags New England quite a few years ago. I thought it was dirty, unorganized, and overpriced. Of course that was years ago, and in a different location.

You may want to consider Sesame Street Place in PA. It's designed for little kids.

We went to six flags NJ a few years back on a "work" outing with our daughter who was 3 or 4...all I can say is UGH!. There were very minimal rides for little children...it was hot steamy and drizzily...not a fun expierence for me at all. the few rides they did have she enjoyed, but otherwise that was it. :oP...
the other posters had great ideas...Sesame Place, Land Of Make Believe, Check Playlands web site ( that is close), Central Park...I live in Westchester and had no idea Central Park had sooooooooooooo much to do..Good luck ..have fun hope all of these ideas helped

Sesame Place is in Langhorne PA....it is geared for younger children and a great day out. There is a bunch of water "rides" including a lazy river, sprinkler area andwading pool as well as dry rides and shows-characters are always around and there is a big parade at 2pm. I recommend getting the Elmo's pass because it is the same cost as a one day pass but you get two visits to the park (so you can go back during the summer or in the fall for their Halloween stuff) Children under 2 are free. (can you tell we are season pass holders? HAHAHA)

If you wanted a mini vacation, you can go to Lancaster PA...it has Hershey Park and Dutch Wonderland as well as Amish Country. It's a bit further but also a lot of fun. Dutch Wonderland is geared for younger children. There is also the Strassburg (sp) Train Museum and in the fall they have Thomas the Tank Engine that you can ride on.

There are a few sections for small children. If your son is walking already, he'll be able to get on some of the kiddie rides. We've been getting season passes since our daughter was 2.5 yo and son was 1. Our children have always been fond of the shows there too. Have fun!

You may want to check out Land of Make Believe in Hope, NJ - that is also geared for smaller kids.

There is a Sesame Street theme park somewhere on the East Coast, not sure exactly where, but maybe you could head there?? It would be a bit futher drive than NJ obviously, but maybe worth it depending upon the time. Also see if the Six Flags has a water park or if there's another water park nearby (sometimes hotels have them) and take him there if he loves to splash.

6 Flags is really expensive and he can't go on the rides - and thus one of you can't either. Skip it until he can or until you can leave him with someone and go as a couple.

Look up 'splash park' - where they have water. Also bay side beaches where there are no waves - Jones Beach and Coney Island would be too rough for him to enjoy.

There is an amusement park at Wollman Rink during the summertime, but no water rides, as far as I know. If he loves water, he'll LOVE the Land of Make Believe in Hope, NJ or Sesame Place in Langhorne, PA (the latter is much pricer though than LOMB). Or how about Rye Playland? Not sure about the rides for his age there, but it is by the water, so you can do a amusement park / beach day. If you want to do a whole weekend out of it, go to Dutch Wonderland in Lancaster, PA. THe entire amusement park is designed for the under 5 crowd, and there is a very nice water park area there as well. Strasburg, PA, nearby, has lots of train stuff too, if he enjoys that.
