Entertaining Teenagers

I just found out my two teenage nieces (13 and 16) will be spending the weekend with me. Does anyone know of anything going on this weekend (preferrably in FW or Arlington, but Dallas is not out of the question) that would be fun for them to do with my three-year-old and me? I don't get to see them a lot, as they live in another part of the state, so I can't be sure they're still interested in the things they were interested in when I last saw them (Christmas).

I haven't done teenage stuff (myself or with kids) for quite a while. Since they're not from this area, they don't really know what is fun and safe to do, but I know them well enough to know they won't really tell me what they would like to do - e.g. "Do you want to go to a movie?" "I guess so." "Do you want to go skating?" "I don't know." (aaaaarrrrrrrrruuuuugggggggghhhhh!!!)

Thanks!

What can I do next?

I have a 10 year old daughter and a 15 year old son. We bought passes to Hawaiian Falls that just opened up in mansfield. Everyone loves it and they have a great kiddie area for your duaghter. The s can run around while you and your daughter hang out. Honestly it's fun for the whole family, I didn't think I like it as much as I did. They have great deals on their website for family 4 pack with a meal, and unlimited drink passes for $80.00. Just one idea...

Why not go to a water park? Your 3 yr old will love it and the teenagers will too! NRH20 in North Richland Hills is farly inexspensive and better for the small kids but also has plenty of stuff for the big kids. Hurricane Harbor is doing a special right now where everyone gets in for the kids price which is $19.99 so it will probably cost the same amnt to go to NRH20 or Hurricane Harbor. I have taken my son who is almost 2 yrs old to water parks since he was about 6 months old and he loves it and as long as you bring plenty of sunblock, water and get there early they will be able to handle the weather. If all else fails you could take them to Six Flags but I dont think your 3yr old would enjoy it as much!

I was thinking a water park too. I don't know how they are... but I always loved the zoo... even as a teenager... so maybe even something like that or the Botanical Gardens in Fort Worth??

Hi D.- I have a 13 yr old- Mani-Pedi is always fun and the Melting pot is a fondue type restaurant-
Grapevine mills mall- (better during the week-not weekend)
Dallas Aquarium and to tell you the truth- The botanical center has a Japanese Garden that is a fun spot to take pics and all and around the corner is a huge "antique" mall but it has lots of "look what I found stuff and a quaint little spot that looks like nothing but has great lunch food-My dgt has no interest in the antiques but there are some neat new items available and it was fun to browse thru it with my aunt who is older to see whatthe old stuff is all about-
Cant go wrong with NRH20 in North Richland Hills.
I dont care what anyone says- a night of the roseo may not be something they choose- but they will probably enjoy if they have never been
Movie Tavern has food while you are at the movies- always fun and inexpensive
OH- if they like to cook- check out the cooking classes at Central Market in your area. Entree Vous is a fun spot in Southlake to make your dinner with them- ask for Anna and tell her D. Sent you!
Ice Skating at the Galleria can be fun too and of course- just hanging in southlake towne square- but that can def get pricey...
You can tell them to bring their clothes that they no longer use- bring them to Platos closet--get $ for them and reshop there or spend it elsewhere- whatever Platos doesnt take- drop off at a local church- get the feel good mode going. Im sure they will love being with you and spending time with just them and getting a sitter for your little one would be awesome. Merle Norman also does makeovers at the store itself. Sometimes its better just to let them pick a few and pop in a few of your own ideas- they dont always think something will be fun but once they do it- they are glad they did- but meanwhile it isnt anything they wuld of chosen themselves.- know what I mean- Have fun! What a nice aunt you are!
Hey- maybe a nice photo of the cousins together would be grat too!- I know of a few great photographers....

Maybe Six Flags or Hurricane Harbor? I also like NRH2o in North Richland Hills. They don't charge you to park and allow you to bring in food and drinks where Hurricane Harbor does not. Incredible Pizza in Euless is nice too. Most of their attractions are geared toward older "kids" and your 3 year old would have fun too. Something else that might be fun - all get pedicures and then dessert at Cheesecake Factory in Southlake. Then if they did want to go to the movies, it is right across the street. Have fun!

Dallas World Aquarium on Griffin Street in Dallas is awesome! We were just there last weekend with our family and everyone had a great time. Like an indoor zoo/aquarium all in one and you can even eat there if you want.

What about a water park. You could let them go off to some bigger rides while you take your little one to the kiddie area. Arlington has lots of cheap public pools- look on their website. Putt Putt might be fun. What about the Ripleys musuem- my stepsons enjoy that. (they are 12 & 14) Go to the Star Telegram website and they usually have a section of "things to do this weekend". Make a list of a few options and let the girls pick- that may keep you away from the standard answers of- "sure" "ok" and "whatever". Take them to the movie store and let them pick a few and have a girls night in. Cokes and lots of junk food will be a hit! Maybe you could just go to the mall and look around and have lunch. Check the Gaylord hotel in Grapevine- they sometimes have family events going on. Good luck and have fun.
