Embarrasing Question - Tampa,FL

I'm 8 1/2 months pregnant with my second child and I'm noticing a foul odor coming from "down there". I don't remember with my first if this happened or not. I have had all the recommended tests done, see my OB on schedule so I would like to think I'm just being paranoid. I go back to my OB next week and I will discuss with them at that time. Has anyone else had this??

I definitely remember it being smelly down there when I was far into my pregnancy, but nothing I was concerned about. I wouldn't be too concerned unless its strong enough that other people can smell it!

Call the doctor right away you could have a yeast infection and those are no good for a vag delivery.

Just go see your doctor -that will alleviate any worry about an infection. And remember -It's late July in the sticky, humid south! This may be a bit TMI, but I think most of us have to take some extra, um, precautions for "freshness" when you live in incredibly hot humid areas during the summer! You know -extra washes (a bidet a few times a day is fabulous if you have it), some corn starch, cotton panties and loose, flowing skirts -especially if you're in the late stages of pregnancy w/ all the hormones -it just gets a little "wild" down there.

you should have your doc make sure you dont have an infection. if you are clear than remember that it is really hot out and when its hot you sweat and bacteria eat sweat, try using baby powder, I used it when I was pregnant it kept me cooler too.

It's probably nothing, you might be leaking fluid or something but I would call your Dr's office and speak w/ the nurse. They might try to bump your appt up. Congrats on your new addition :)

It sounds like an infection to me also, If this was a constant then I would say hormones, but this is new right so infection. Do not feel embarases this happens to all of us. If you do not have a cheesy discharge then it could be bacterial instead of a Yeast. Please call you GYN and get in to see him, please do not treat yourself.

Congrats on the Baby, wishing you a safe delivery ;0)

I would not wait til next week. I would call your doctor now. If you have some sort of infection, the sooner you get the right treatment, the sooner it will go away.

It's best to just ask your ob at this point. I know these things can make you feel uncomfortable but none of us ladies have the credentials to tell you what what might be wrong and certainly none of us should be advising you to use anything, natural or not. If it helps comfort you any, I can tell you that with each of my 3 children, I experienced a variety new things and not one of them was an infection. It's all part of pregnancy and the hormones associated with pregnancy can and DO make things different for each and every woman. Hang in there, it won't be long now and before you know it, all these little discomforts will be just a blurred memory. But give your doctor a call. He or she is the only one qualified to tell you not to worry or to run a few tests.

Depends what the foul oder is. You'd need to describe it. i can tell you I smell funky almost the whole way through, like ammonia and vinegar. It grosses me out and I change my underwear three times a day when prego. But if its fishy you may have an infection.

It could be bacterial vaginosis. Explain your concerns to the nurse so that they can test for that. The doctor may give you some suppositories to cure this or just as a precaution. It could also be due to excessive sweating, now that it is warm plus having the extra weight and the raging hormones can make you get very hot. If it's not BV, I wouldn't worry about it. Maybe you can try Vagisil powder or panty liners if the smell is that bothersome to you. Also, due to the fact you're pregnant, your sense of smell may have increased so now the odor is becoming more offensive. Although I am not pregnant like you, I thought I had BV some months ago and got the suppositories and all, washed often, used cotton panties with panty liners, etc., but it turned out that I'm one of those people who is paranoid about BO as the doctor said all women have a scent down there, and that it gets worse as summer rolls around, so it's possible that like me, you may have a phobia that's exaggerated by your own paranoia, LOL.

If it's definitely "foul" smelling, give your doctor's office a call today. If it's just itchy/burny, you might be able to hold out till next week. The first could be BV (a bacterial infection) and the second could be yeast. I'm 28 weeks and have a yeast infection but wasn't sure exactly until i had the culture done. But in the past, I have had BV and it was definitely an unpleasant odor--but pregnancy can certainly present odd things. Your pretty close to your due date, so it probably would be best not to wait it out. Good luck!

I think you should go see your doctor, when I was 8 months and half I start leaking...I don't know the name, is the liquid where the baby is.
I went to my doc and they have to do an emergency c-section.
My liquid was kind of yellows, greenish if I remember well (it has been 12 years), I also suggest talking to your doctor so you can have a vaginal delivery (if that is what you want) my doctor never give me the option or really talk to me at all.
I hope this is just a mild infection or just normal pregnancy hormones but you should check in case.

With my 2nd child I had the same issue. It didn't last super long - but it was annoying and I had to use baking soda baby powder. Now my baby is 10 and I forget what my doctor said to do about. I would definitely check with what your OB says. For now try the baking soda powder.

Keep me posted.

For the lady who posted this smell- amonia and vinegar smell is BV. The person needs to use Culturelle tablets,(find them over the counter) insert one per night for 3 weeks.
