My son had a small rash oh the back of he's hip. Took him to the doctor and he gave us Locoid Lipocream ( Hydrocortisone butyrate) Said to use it for a week and it should go away. Well here we are a week later and it got bigger and now there's a small rash on the back of his knee, called the dr. and he said that he has eczema and to just keep putting the same medication and keep him moisturized 4-5 times daily putting lotions on him. But I'd like to know if any moms out there know of any thing I could do for my son, Please anything to help get rid of it or to treat it. Thanks

What can I do next?

My son (15 months old) has eczema as well, and Cetaphil was recommended as a moisturizer by our ped. It has worked very well. Heat seems to exaggerate it, so we have also started trying to keep the sweat down with powder. If it has been a week with no improvement, I would look for another treatment. Also, be aware that it could be an allergy (food or environmental) that is causing it. My son has allergies to several foods but once we eliminated them from his diet, his eczema went away. It could also be from sweat under his diaper (ours gets that too). Aveeno hydrocortsione helped stopped the itching and we make sure it to powder at every diaper change.

My 21 month old has severe eczema on her ankles and back of her knees. When she has a flare up, I either do stand up luke warm showers or quick luke warm baths with dove soap. I let her air dry. I put on her steriod cream and let it dry and then I cake it with Aquaphor- it is great! Then, we put on night night socks over it or just pants for pajamas so she can't scratch as easily. I put the steroid cream on twice a day for three days but you can't use it all of the time because it thins out her skin. I find within two or three days of this routine it is back to normal. I still treat her trouble spots with the aquaphor daily but just once maybe twice depending on how dry it looked. My sister is a pediatric nurse practitioner and that is what she told me to do- it has worked everytime. She still has outbreaks but it makes me feel better to know I can control them. Hope that this helps.

Dear D.,

My name is R. and one of my girls age 6 has eczema and the only hope we have is that they grow out of it.
I ended up taking my daughter to a dermatologist and all they did was prescribe more and more medicines. So i searched for home remedies and through alot of trial and errors, I figured out that my child had an allergy to cows milk. I switched her to soy milk and the break outs are fewer and less severe.
I use unscented creams and not lotion. The reason is that lotions have water and do not keep the skin moist. The brand the name of lotion i found that works best is (Cetaphil cream). Again, only treat the hot spots with the medication given.
There is a lot of great information on line as to what people have tried and maybe something may work for you.
Good luck.

R.
