My 20 month old has recently started eating her poop. She does it during the night when we are sleeping or early in the morning. I don't know how to stop her and I'm worried that it will make her sick. I've tried having her wear rompers to bed or for naps, but she knows how to get out of them. What should I do??? Will this make her sick??? HELP!!

What can I do next?

Hi J.
I am so sorry you have to deal with this. I would call the Dr. to see what he says. When I daughter was stripping and peeing on my floor we ended up putting a swimsuit on her under her clothes. It worked wonderful!! Good Luck:) T.

Hi J., wow that is nasty. Let me tell you my daughter used to paint with her poop in the middle of the night and the middle of the day, she would always take her diaper off at night. It was the nastiest thing I have ever had to deal with. She painted EVERYWHERE. The suggestion that I had from another parent was to duct tape her diaper on her. Not all the way around but just where you attacb the diaper put two small pieces of duct tape on there. I know it sounds terrible but they aren't strong enough to rip that off so she just left it alone. Give it a shot, she just quit trying after that because she thought she couldn't get them off anymore.

Two of my friends duct-taped the diaper on until the behavior stopped. You could also dress her in a one piece sleeper pajama turned around backwards at night, so she can't unzip it.

Hi J.,

Did you ever think you'd be posting a question titled "eating poop"?! I could probably come up with some doozie questions myself! Amazing, the things you run into as a mom. :)

My daughter didn't eat her poop, but went through a poop-playing phase. We duct taped her into her diaper for a while, and after she figured that out we put her in a Sleep Sack and diaper-pinned the zipper shut by threading the pin through the hole in the zipper handle and pinning it to the fabric. Worked like a charm.

Good luck! This too shall pass, as my mom says.

My son used play with his poop...GROSS! I just put a onesie on him under all his clothes, eventually he stopped! He was about the same age as yours. This is probably a good time to start potty training!

Ohhhh.....that is just awful....I am so sorry. I would get the footie jammies and cut the feet off and put them on backwards so that they zip up the back and she can't get them off. I've also heard of saftey pinning the zipper on one piece zip-up jammies so that they can't unzip those either. Good luck and be sure to let us know what happens with this!

My daughter at her poop in the bathtub once I thought I was gonna die. It didn't hurt her.

I would put footie pajamas or a once piece type clothing on her and put in on her backwards so she can't undo her clothing and get to her diaper.

Also tell her pediatrician
