Eating - Norwalk,CT

My 7 month old was taking anywhere from 6-8 oz of her formula every 4-5 hrs. up until a week ago when she came down with a head cold. Ever since I am lucky if she takes 4-5 oz. It upsets me but she does eat 3 meals a day of solids. Should I be worried she is also teething?

What can I do next?

Nope. Don't worry at all. If she is hungry she will let you know. When they get sick and especially teething. There eating habits slow down. Sucking on a bottle hurts there little gums. If she is eating three meals a day with the little formula she is getting what she needs to thrive. May I sugest you get her some Childrens Motrin to help with her teething. If she has a little but of the head cold still and is congested in her nose there sucking is hard for them cause they can't breath. Babies do not know how to breath threw there mouth until they are 1 yrs of age. So sucking and only breathing threw there nose with a head cold is very complicated for them. Give her her time she will get back to her eating habits again. Be patient and remember when were sick we don't want to eat either cause nothing taste good and you can't breath. Just love up and maybe try a little water if your concerend about dehydration. A little water will help thin the mucus ceretion threw her nose. She's fine she is just sick.

My 9month old son was eating really well too, up until he got a cold about a week ago. I took him to the doctor who told me that as long as he's eating something, it's a good sign (he still nurses). She said a cold will knock out your appetite and it does the same for babies. She also mentioned that a cold can last about 10 days, so maybe just give it some time. I don't think you should worry yet. As long as she's eating and drinking (keep the fluids coming!).

Its normal if she is teething. Some times kids loose apetite while teething. They may even become fussy and irritated.

Hi G.,
If her milk intake is down, I would cut down on the solids. She doesn't need them and it's the milk that gives babies the necessary nutrients for the first year of growing, it has things she needs which are not in her food. I'd try for less food in the hopes that would make her take more milk
