C., I wouldn't add any foods to his bottles. I am assuming he is formula fed? Give him his morning bottle and in about 2 hours, offer him some soft, easy foods, like formula soaked puffs, cheerios, soft fruit baby food. Maybe 4-5 hours is too long and he is very hungry and frustrated? I don;t know, just an idea. Will he take pedialite? Have you talked to the nurse at your pediatrician about this? If not, I think you should make a call. It's common that babies don't want to eat/suck/drink when they don't feel well. Are you able to get his ear infection meds into him? I think avoiding dehydration should be your first priority, after clearing the ear infection....you'll feel better after you talk to the nurse. Good luck!
