Just wondering if anyone knows better earrings to buy for a fifteen month old. She has the typical post earrings but I am always losing the backing and almost the whole earring. Sometimes the backing is knocked off or gets caught on her clothes. Thank you!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I will look into "Piercing Pagoda" for screw backs that lock. As for the lever type earrings, I've been told my daughter is too young for that. Maybe she would pull on her earrings then. Thank you!

Oh man, my kid tosses and turns so much at night she looses earrings or just the backings all the time. We went to a jewelry store to get our baby's ears pierced and the man told me not to use piercing earrings after 6 months. The posts are actually different sizes. The earring with a screw on the back are called safety backs, and you can find them at walmart too for around 15 bucks. My baby did ok with them for a month then one day I noticed she had one earring missing. I eventually just got regular earrings (for sensitive ears of course) and I put the plastic tube backings on them. So far she hasn't lost one (backings or earring itself). You can find them at walmart, for pretty cheap.

Hi A.,

I was having the same problem. I brought my daughter hoops but the ones that hug the ear. They are like a circle around the whole ear as opposed to the hoops with the straight post that snaps in the back. They have not come off since I brought them and she sleeps in them at night. They are great. I got them from TJ MAXX for $40.00.

I got "Huggies" from Piercing Pagoda....but get the 10k not 14k....10 k has more metal and makes them heavier to stay closed is what they told me...I lost 3 pairs of 14k and got the 10k and they have been in my daughter's ears for 2 years with no problems...plus everyone thinks they are real diamonds that would have cost $600 in the other stores! I never even bothered with the screw back posts because do you really want to hold your baby down to screw them in..lol...plus 15 months is a cute age...she can move onto to bigger earrings! Good Luck!

I tried the screw backs for my baby and lost them right away. They were so small and shallow, it didn't really tighten at all, and I had to keep screwing them on so they would stay. I ended up going to Piercing Pagoda and getting the piercing earrings for her. They have a "locking" back so I never have to tighten them or worry that they'll fall off. To get them off, you have to pull front and back really hard. They have all sorts of designs, so you have a pretty wide choice!

You could look for the screw back type...
I don't know where to get them - I just know that they exist.
YMMV

Dear A., The little hoops work best once you get past the turning and bacitracin stage. My grand daughter has worn them since whe was very small. Grandma Mary

I'm not in agreement with babies and earrings however, my earrings have a screw on the back.

I wear the same large diamond studs daily and I've never had an issue with the screw backs. The jeweler recommended them for safety and so far they have worked for me.

My son got his ears done when he was 3, and we kept losing backs. I simply started taking the small clear rubber things they use to keep the earrings on the display card and started putting them on behind the backs. We have not lost one since. I think you can even buy a pack that just has lots of the little rubber holders, I have seen them at clairs and walmart.

Not sure if it was mentioned but you can also get little plastic pieces that go on the end of the post to keep the earings on...little plastic cut off tube type things. Icings/claires...usually sells them.

You need a screw in post like the kind that comes on diamond studs or the very first once you get when dr office does it

I always tried to get my girls the earrings w/the lever backs. They didn't come undone and you had less of a chance of losing them.
