Ear Infections and the Chiropractor

Does anyone have experience with taking their children to the chiropractor for ear infections? We have two daughters (ages 2 & 4) who have chronic ear infections. They get them right after a cold (because their ears don't drain properly) and only in the winter. Because they are in preschool, they are exposed to colds. They are both daily swimmers in the summer and have no other ear problems. Can you please let me know what chiropractor you went to if you live in the Bay Area? Thanks.
*Just wanted to let everyone know (who will tell me to take the kids to a doctor) that I do take my kids to their doctor and an ENT all the time (in fact, we have spent so much money that we should have a wing named after us), I just want to try something new because I am tired of the antibiotics. This cannot be good for our children and we are trying different things before having the surgery for the tubes--I would much rather try anything else than surgery.

What can I do next?

My daughters and I go to Dr. Osborne in San Jose near Santa Clara University and I would highly recommend him. Not only is he great with young children (my youngest is 3 years old) but he has a proven track record of great chiropractic care for the whole family. His phone number is ###-###-#### (Discover Chiropractic).

Take Care,

Hi Kristie,
I am a chiropractor and treat kids from birth. Chiropractic or cranial work does not treat ear infections, what we do is make sure that the cranial bones and spine joints are moving properly without constriction on the nerves, which causes muscle tightness and altered function. When muscles in the neck and/or ear are tight it prevents lymph from draining and the infection is more likely as there is media for it in the ear without proper drainage.
I have 2 boys myself and treated them periodically since birth. They do not have a history of ear infections at all. It is very gentle work as the kids' spine and bones are still very cartilagenous, therefore the technique needs to be adjusted as well.
I do housecalls and will be glad to come to your house and work with your girls. Please visit my website www.drtalidc.com
There you will find a little more information about me and my practice. I will be glad to talk to you over the phone too if you have any questions ###-###-####). Once again, I am really happy you are seeking chiropractic care for your daughters.
P.S. Chiropractors do get a doctor's degree. We can not do surgery or prescribe drugs but we go through 8 years of school to get the degree and study as much anatomy/physiology/pathology as medical doctors do.

Hi,
My son (now 21) had horrible ear infections for years and had tubes put in twice. He lost some hearing as a result. Another mom recommended that we see an osteopath. The sessions with the osteopath were absolutely painless, but oddly exhausting for my son. After eight sessions he NEVER, EVER, EVER had another ear infection! I really am sad that I didn't hear about this treatment earlier.

The doctor expained, if I remember correctly, that certain cranial manipulations can create the ideal structure for the ear to drain. Don't let your children go through another painful, potentially harmful infection without at least speaking with an osteopath.

The doctor we saw - can't remember her name - was on Bay Avenue in Capitola.
Good luck!

I don't know anything about the chiropractor, but my daughter (age 4) also gets constant ear infections following colds - and she shows no symptoms until her ear drum ruptures. When she was almost 3 a friend heard that cutting out dairy during the cold and giving soy or rice milk instead will help (her daughter had the same problem, and she passed on the info). It worked like a charm. Now, every time she has a cold we cut out the yogurt and cows milk and give her soy. Especially beneficial this year since she started preK and has had a constant cold since September.

Chiropractors are not medical doctors. Why would you take your precious children to a chiropractor for ear problems? Please go to a pediatrician.

Hi my name is D. and I live in south San Jose. I take all five of my children to our chiropractor. When my second daughter was born, she used to get an ear infection just about every two months and the her body was getting used to the antibiotics that were given to her by her pediatrician. I mentioned it to my chiropractor and he took a look at her. I started taking her once a week for an ajustment and with in two months she never developed another ear infection until she was about five or six and that was because she developed swimmers ear from swimming every day. My daughter is now 10and doing well. We still visit the chiropractor about every three month for wellness care. He is great with children. His name is Dr. Demetrus###-###-#### He is located on Blossom Hill Rd. and Chesbro. Good Luck and I know not everyone agrees with taken their children to a chiropractor but check it out, it worked for us.

Hi K.,

First of all, you are doing the right thing by seeking chiropractic care for your kids, despite what one of the other reviews said (falsely accusing chiropractors as quacks and obviously having no personal experience of their own). Listen to everyone else's overwhelmingly positive experiences.

That said, the best chiropractor I know around is my husband! Perhaps one might say I'm a little biased =), but he is truly a great adjuster and great with kids. He is gentle and does an excellent job. He's even been asked by pregnant patients to check their newborns at the hospital!

I know that there are many cases of children being helped for ear infections as well as many other symptoms. I have two daughters also (2 1/2 and 1, and counting). My eldest loves getting adjusted, and has never had an ear infection--the little one either. I don't know if anyone can say for certain that it's absolutely because of chiropractic, but so far so good! They do get their average colds, but so far never really serious ones, and they tend to get over them quickly.

My husband's practice is Abundant Life Chiropractic, located in Sunnyvale, very near the Lawrence Costco. His name is Dr. Andre Tio and his office number is ###-###-####. (He moved there from Mountain View in May, so I don't know if it's listed in Sunnyvale yet.) He would be more than happy to meet you and your family! And so would I!

I have heard that this is very effective, because it stops the blockage where the infection gathers....with no side effects!

There's a Mamasource member who is a chiropractor -- and she makes house calls (she doesn't even have an office!)

Virgilija Tali ###-###-#### ____@____.com Fountain of Health Family Chropractic. She lives in Santa Clara, so I know you're in her area. (She and I are in a women's business networking club together -- so if you contact her, could you let her know I referred you??)

I have taken my boys to a chiropractor for ear infections! It was a God Send!!! They have not had one and they also did not get car sick while on long drives in the car. I recently just moved from CO, that is where we use to go to the Chiropractor at. Since I moved to the Bay area, I know of the Palmer School for Chiropractic and you can go there and see a student who is just about finished with school! If you need numbers for there I did meet one of the students and she is very nice. Hope this helps

I used to manage the office (I'm now her bookkeeper) for a chiropractor in Los Gatos who works wonders. She has many patients who bring their children in for a variety of issues with great results in most cases. Her name is Kily Tracy DC. The clinic is Blue Heron Health Center at 15670 Los Gatos Blvd (in the Nob Hill Center)located on the corner of Los Gatos Almaden Road and Los Gatos Blvd. Dr. Tracy is located just behind the Iron Skillet in the center. The phone # ###-###-####. Call her and speak with Jackie, the CA or the Dr. herself. If anyone can help you, I'll bet she can. She is a Palmer graduate and is unlike most chiropractors I've seen and the only one my husband and I really trust to work on us and members of our family. If she feels she can't help, she will refer you to a specialist who can.
Good luck, L.
