Hi everyone,
For Mothers Day or our anniversary coming up, I am going to ask my husband for an e-reader, but I would like to see if anyone has any recommendations for a specific one/benefits, etc.
I was looking between the Kindle, Nook and the Sony Reader.
Any help you could provide would be great---thanks!

What can I do next?

I agree that you should look at the new ipad from Apple, not only can you read books on it, but so much more. I just got an iphone, and LOVE it, so the ipad would be just as great but with the ability to read books on it too!

I have the Nook. I'm really enjoying it so far. I'm supposed to be able to read PDFs as well as the e-books but I haven't had the chance to try that out yet. I do really like one feature and that is "loaning" books to other nook owners. Most of the books that you can buy have a Lend-Me button and if you have the name of another nook owner you can "borrow" or "lend" a book for 2 weeks. I would recommend getting a cover for it. They're around $30 and they really help me protect it. Hope you enjoy yours.

I LOVE my Sony Reader! You can put every kind of book on it that is in a book store and it holds sooo many. Books are purchased online. I haven't tried to use it in a bookstore so not sure if that would work. I can also use it for notes at meetings, newspapers, kids books and there should be one coming out soon that is color rather than black and white. I have heard that we will eventually be able to order magazines for the Sony Reader. My older son's have purchased gift cards that i v=can use online for ordering more books. Those are gift cards I like! You can also purchase free books - woohoo for me cause I read so much professionally and personally.

My 5 brothers and sisters purchased a Kindle for our mom last year for Xmas. She's not real computer savvy so we set her Kindle up for her, created her account on Amazon and showed her how to access Amazon and purchase her books online. She's been home free ever since! She loves it. The only bad thing is you have to make your purchases from Amazon I believe. I don't know anything about the other two items, but I believe the same holds true for them as well. Good Luck with your purchase/gift!

I recently saw that Apple products now partner with Amazon for online books through the kindle system. Amazon.com has a big promotion for this. The new Ipad seemed to be most comparable to the kindle in size, but any apple product the iphone, itouch, imac ect, can function as an e-reader with the kindle partnership. In my opinion there isn't enough of a price difference to justify why one product can not only function as an e-reader, but can also do SO much more. I don't know if you have seen all the apps for the ipad, but it has a coupon function, games to entertain the kids for those long lines or the unexpectedly long wait and the games are educational too. The ipad is new, but can do way more than just function as an e-reader and for the price you get way more bang for your buck. I think it would be worth a trip to the apple store if you aren't familiar with all that apple can do.

I got a nook recently and have finished my second book on it. I love it, love it, love it. I can get any book I want from just about anywhere. I can use wifi, cellular, or my computer to download. I am currently debating purchasing a bible on it b/c I am skeptical about how easy it will be to navigate. The only bits the are somewhat bothersome (not even negatives really) is the battery lasts considerably shorter if you leave the wifi on, but the battery is accessible and replaceable, when I turn off the wifi it last a couple of weeks. I read about 7-10 hours a week. The page turns a bit slow but I use the side buttons on the 2nd to last word and then I am ready for the next page. The books are cheap and it is easy to find free ones even.

I gave my husband a kindle two years ago and he loves it! He brings it everywhere he goes and reads every chance he gets.He says it was the best gift he's ever received! We also gave one to my Dad for his 70th BD and he also loves it (even though he was a little reluctant at first as he is not tech savy) It is extremely easy to use and the Kindle library is enormous and cheap most of the classics are even free!

I have a Kindle and I absolutely love it. I don't have any experience with the others so I can't really compare them but I do love my Kindle. One experience I will share is that they are a little delicate (my guess is that probably all are) so I would highly recomend getting a case to keep it in. I dropped mine (without a case) while it was on and the screen got ruined, but we called amazon and they did a warranty exchange for me and I had a new one the next day. Amazon has fantastic customer service so that is a plus to a Kindle.
