DVD Storage

For those of you with toddlers, where do you keep your DVDs? I would love a new tv stand with drawers to fit the DVDs, but until that happens, we keep ours in the cheap dvd towers (open shelving). Ever since my son learned to walk, he has taken them all out off the shelves, and now at 2.5 he is able to open the cases. He has gotten better about listening to us and not making a mess, but it is not an ideal situation at all, and we have a new little one, so I am sure it will start all over again. I am wondering how others solve this problem. Thanks!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Patty- You are right! "No" has helped a great deal, this is just an occasional thing now, but I still feel it is an issue.

I use the storage books. You can get them in all different sizes. I'm on my third book now. Between whole seasons, different movies, and Wii games, I have over 500 discs stored in the books. All organized and cataloged in an Excel spreadsheet. :) I can't imagine going back to having individual cases!

I use those case logic storage books, just to cut down on bulk. Bonus that they're pretty toddler proof. Sure, no is a good word to learn, but its also nice to not have to say no to everything.

I know exactly what you are going through!! Just changed this in our house...we actually put all of the DVDs in a "storage book" that has a zipper and threw away the cases. It now is easy to take the DVDs in the car and to store them in the house!

We put them in a different room then the TV, one the kids don't go in and out of all the time. Wasn't until they were older and we could trust them not to mess them up that we put the shelves where they had easy access to them. If they wanted a DVD they had to get help.

We use a storage book too - it zips closed. Cases are in a box in the basement! Works well for us too since we have a tv in the living room that they watch and one in an extra bedroom/toyroom and we have a motorhome. It's so easy just to grab the dvd book and take it wherever they want to watch something. It holds a TON of movies!!!! something like this......

I have them in baskets under the tv stand. They're in there pretty tight, so he can't pull them out, but we can. He doesn't mess with them (yet), but he may not realize the stuff is actually under there either. These are the ones I have .... http://www.worldmarket.com/product/madras-storage-basket.... ... In the large size.

If you have an Ikea near you, they have wonderful and inexpensive DVD storage that can be child-proofed. We finally bought one after YEARS of finding DVDs distributed throughout the house.

I make a copy of them (legally) and then I store them in a closet where my son can not reach them. I have the copies in a CD case and the case is kept on a shelf. The case holds 150 movies and I keep the standards in there.

All of our music is stored on our computer. The actual DVDs are in DVD storage cases in our storage area. I threw out the plastic cases. I love this system...it takes up no space!

The word no might help. Not too young to understand you do not touch DVDs.
