Duck Trauma

My poor daughter....

We went to feed the ducks today only to somehow wind up in the "duck ghetto". One duck stole the bag right out of my daughters hand and ran off with it. One bit her as she stood there watching the duck thief run off with her bag, then they got into a duck gang war over the bag. Feathers were flying everywhere, it was awful. Of course I had to wade into the thick of it to get the bag back, which resulted in my being bit too. Now my daughter has declared them, Bad Bad BAD ducks. Guess we need to stick to the other side of the pond.

She also fell into the toilet for the first time today. Poor kid needs a cookie or something. How's everyone else's day going?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

LOL don't feel bad for laughing, it was meant to be funny. Things like this are always funny in hindsight, in fact it was pretty funny at the time. They didn't hurt us when they bit us or anything. Maybe there was just some duck PMS going around. :)

Duck life lessons - sharing is good, stealing is bad, mob rule is the worst and you should never bite to get what you want. Bad ducks indeed.

Thanks for the much needed laugh, though.

I hear they employ Border Collie Patrol on those "types" of ducks. At least one didnt hit you over the head with a piece of Duckweed for the change in your purse.
Toilet Spelunking isnt a favorite past time for my kids either.

Day is going ok, after my transmission on the baby mobile went out, had to cram 3 car seats in the back of a 1999 Toyota Camry who's drive door doesnt open from the outside, you have to use a screwdriver to open it from the inside. The passengers side door is broken from the inside, and I need gas. So I go to pop the gas door, yep doesn't work (mind you this is my husbands beater for commutes). It took me 15 minutes in the rain to pry it open, and I broke 2 nails and cut my finger. Then I go to get the kids out, son catches foot between car seats, and I fall with him on top me in a pile of dog doo in the garage (husband too "tired" to walk dog and put her in heated garage last night). So here I am with my cup o coffee typing on Mamapedia, with my 3 kids happily engrossing they faces with dilly bars from Dairy Queen.

I had almost the same thing happen to me when I took my son to feed the ducks a few years back. I was on maternity leave with my daughter and thought it would be nice to get him out of the house for a little Mommy / son time. We got to the park and the ducks were really agressive. One duck came up and snatched the bread from my son's hand which resulted in him getting bit. And when we were out of bread, they started ganging up on us..lol!. We had to climb on a picnic table because I was too scared to move (they were really all around us). I called my SO in a panic because I wasn't sure what to do (not that I thought he could help - it just made me feel better). Eventually they left so we were able to get to the car. But that was the last time he asked to go feed the ducks.

J. - I hate to say this but I giggled at your description of the duck incident! I could just imagine an aggressive duck grabbing your bag and taking off with it. And the duck gang war . . . oh too funny.

I'd make daughter a cup of hot cocoa with marshmallows!

Well....I just had to give the dog a bath (and he just got one last night) because my little one decided she was going to share her ravioli with him. By share I mean tossing it on his white back. My older child had her first *accident* at school and came home wearing strange pants and undies. She always has spare clothes in her backpack just in case but for some reason the teacher didn't check in there. Now I look like I'm the fool parent who doesn't have enough sense to send extra clothes with a 4 year old. I hurt my back getting my youngest out of the car yesterday and it still hurts today and I can't take anything for it because I get my liver levels checked soon and they don't want anything throwing it off. But my husband just got a holiday gift card from his employer so that's nice!

LMAO @ these duck stories!!! The closest thing I have to that is one time when we were little my parents brought us to the zoo & not only did my sister get her finger bitten by a chicken she was trying to feed, but a llama snatched & ate her hat right off her little head while my dad held her up to see better!

Yeah, taking hold on the "other side of the pond" may be the best idea for now. Perhaps a stuffed duck for Christmas, letting her name it and feed it imaginary food, will help to alleviate the trauma you and she experienced.
I used to throw bread crumbs outside of my condo; but stepped inside and closed the door to watch them eat. They can be mean; but doesn't mean you cannot enjoy their behavior from a distance.
Now you both go have a cookie...
Blessings for a happy holiday, S.

I feel for you. I hope you do not live in an association or you'll have your neighbors all mad at you. LOL once the ducks are fed they never go away and make a huge mess.
