My 2 year old has a very dry scalp. I wash her hair about once or twice a week and she gets plenty of liquids. It doesnt seem to bother her but when I comb it its quite flaky. Any suggestions?

What can I do next?

My pediatrician says to use Selsen Blue 3 times per week.

My sister's girls had the same problem. She used to buy them some kind of shampoo/treatment used to treat cradle cap. I know she just picked it up while she was out so you might want to try the baby section of your local grocery store or maybe a Walgreens or something. I imagine it helped since she continued to buy it.

My girls had soap build up on their scalp which could be mistaken for dry scalp. Are the flakes whiter in color, or do they look a little yellow? White=dry Yellow=soap I also think that craddle cap can lead into toddler years.

Hi, M. --

How hard is your water? That was a major culprit in our house. I don't know if Aquaphor would work on a scalp. You'd really have to wash it out after treating with it, since it's similar to vaseline. But, for us, Aquaphor is a miracle ointment. It's made by Eucerin. Maybe they make a specific formulation for scalps??

Good luck!

My 2 year old has had the same problem. The doctor said it was probably cradel cap. He said that at puberty kids can get it again. I rubbed baby oil on my daughters head and then washed it. what was left rubbed right off. You will need to wash their hair a couple of times before all of the oil is gone but it works great. I had tried olive oil and it didn't work as well as the baby oil.

I would ask your pediatrician for some tips. It doesn't sound like she's getting her hair washed too often. Good luck!
