Hi Moms~
My almost 20 month old has very sensitive skin. With the very cold weather that we've been having his little cheeks get very red and chapped. Even if we're outside only for a minute or so they seem to become bright red in a matter of seconds. We've tried Aquafor, Vaseline, and Grins and Giggles Moisture stick, but nothing seems to calm down the redness and moisturize his skin. Does anyone have a good moisturizer they can suggest???
Thank You!
My son has excema and what usually works for me is in the winter giving him a bath every other day and not letting him stay in the tub for too long. Then whn he gets out, I SLATHER him with creamy baby oil while his skin is still moist. This has kept all of his soft baby skin still soft (even on his face!!!) Hope this works for you!!!

Aveno has a new chapstick that I have been putting all over my daughters chin (she is getting her 2 year molars and won't keep her hands out of her mouth, so her chin and cheeks get very red and chapped). I put it all over her cheeks and chin and lips and then sometimes put vaseline lip stuff over top of it as a protectant. Also Aveno makes a lotion for babies that comes in a tube with a dark blue flip lid, I don't know what the exact name is but it is by Aveno and it is something for very dry skin, that has worked as well. good luck!

I am a mom of four and two of my children have dry skin conditions that they need to treat in the dry weather (both winter and summer).
All of my children have had the red cheeks as babies and toddlers and eucerin is great but has anyone suggested teething? Have you noticed that it may happen during the day or first thing in the morning. That is one of the signs.
Make sure to watch you child's elbow, knees, ankles for raised areas as they grow. If you see bumpy patches and or redness that is eczama (excuse the spelling) and you will need to see a dermatologist!

Hi, E..
I have a 13 months old daughter who has the same problem. My mom said I had the same problem when I was a baby. She also has some dry and red patches on her legs. What I do is I put Johnson's Soothing Natural Balm on her cheeks as soon as she gets out her bath while she still has some moisture on her skin from her bath, and the balm keeps the moisture in, and I think that helps her a lot. I know sometimes when I forget to do that, her skin is so dried in the morning, but when I make sure that I put the balm on her face after the bath before her bedtime, her skin feels so much better.
I think I will have this problem with her cheeks every winter, but I guess their skin is so sensitive that nothing will prevent it 100%.
Good luck and let me know if you get any other good tips from other moms.

We've used Eucerin Cream and had good luck with it. I get the off-brand though because it's exactly the same but far cheaper (my pediatrician suggested this).
Good luck.

My 10 month old has the same problem. What I did is bought a very mild face moisturizer for me and would dab a bit on her. In about a day or two it cleared up. I bought Ponds at Wal-mart for $3 something.

My son's got extra sensitive skin too. Aquaphor helps keep it from advancing too far but it doesn't really clear it up. I just saw a new Aveeno baby lotion at Walmart yesterday that I picked up to try. They've always had baby lotion, but this comes in a smaller size than the bottle - more of a large tube (like the Aquaphor). It's maybe called "Intensive Baby Lotion" or something like that. It claims to be extra strong, but still for sensitive skin and safe on babies. It says it is strong enough to work on exema too which my son gets on his cheeks. That's why we got it to try. I've always liked the other Aveeno products for most other skin issues so I figured it was worth a try. I put it on his face after his bath last night. His face seems pretty soft this am and the exema is fairly mild and doesn't look red or irritated this am. We've only had less than 24 hours to try it though. The nice feature with a lot of the Aveeno products is the oatmeal as it helps make the lotions last longer than others.

Hi - Try using Cetaphil moisturizer. It comes in a big tub, it's very gentle. We use Cetaphil cleanser to wash our daughter's face(and mine actually). Both products are great for sensitive skin. You can find them at drugstores, Target, just about anywhere.

My 9 months old has the same problem, very dry chapped cheeks and nose. What I've been doing is putting Eucerin creme on them about 4 times a day and then before bedtime or if we are going to be outside I put A&D onitment on them to serive as a barrier for the moisture. With my son, he is always wet in those areas due to teething or having a runny nose, so it is important to keep the moisture from soking in and then getting cold. I'm hoping it will clear up when the weather gets warmer-Good luck!

Hi E.,
I have found the only thing that works for my son's dry skin is 100% emu oil. It is non-irritating and unscented. It is not cheap, maybe $12-$16 for 2 oz, but it lasts forever, you only need the tiniest bit. It is not really an oil consistency, more like a waxy jelly. You can get it online or from a health food store. As a side note, it cleared up eczema I had on my hand. Good luck.

My ped. suggested a little crisco (the kind you cook with) for red irritated skin when my daughter was little. It's safe for their faces because it's edible. It worked WONDERS for us! Good luck!

my son has eczema, and the best thing I've found so far is huggies with shea butter. It works even better than the perscriptions the doctor gave me. I also use the matching baby bath instead of soap, even though he's 3 already, because soap dries him out too much. Good luck!

hi E.!
i use arbonne abc (stands for arbonne baby care) for my daughter. she has had very sensitive skin/eczema since birth. their products are awesome, totally pure, safe, and beneficial, herbal and botanically based...just wonderful.
for dry skin they have a great hair and body wash, lotion, and oil. although the lotion works so well, i've never had to use the oil. i actually became an independent consultant for arbonne because i fell so in love with all their products, and its a way for me to stay home and still contribute significantly to the household income.
anyway, sorry...i ramble!
when you look for a product, be sure to check the ingredients. make sure it has no mineral oil in it. if it does, its a waste of money.
good luck!

Johnson & Johnson Soothing Naturals soothe and protect balm works best for Evans sensitive skin. His little cheeks get bright red, too. Also, Target has something new, too, I just can't remember the name. It's in the baby care aisle, a little pricey, though. We were going to try it if this didn't work.

I use Lansinoh (the nipple cream) on my son's chapped thumb. It's expensive but trust me, a little goes a looooonnnnng way!! : ) Put it on when he goes outside as well as when he goes to sleep.
Lansinoh is also good for cuts and diaper rash. I only use it for diaper rash when the reg cream isn't handy. It works great for that, too!

You can perhaps try a Vitamin A $ D ointment (both in the same onitment) at night, then during the day, just rub in Vaseline Intensive Care Lotion - the one in the yellow bottle - this may sound simplistic, but it worked wonders for my girls.

My son has eczema and his skin gets really dry. The only thing I have found that works wonders is Cetaphil body wash and lotion. The body wash doesn't bubble up a lot but it helps the skin. Another thing my dr. suggested was to not bathe him every single day, try going every other day and only wash the parts of the body that needs washing, i.e. face, hair, private areas. You can also use the body wash in between washings, it works to clean them up and also leaves a thin layer to protect their skin.
Hope this helps!

my daughter has the same problem. i went to her doctor and he prescribed a hydrocortisone cream for her face and a triamcinolone cream for the rest of her body. it works great as long as they allow you to put it on them. it's hard sometimes when the children are 2-3 years old. :)

My son is now 6 yrs old and he still has the same problem. Have you tried cocoa butter? This worked really well for my son, and did not make his face break out as Vaseline, and Grins and Giggles did.
