Dreaded Car Rides! Need Advice!

My 4 month old son hates being in the car. He screams every single time, no matter how short the car ride may be. His car seat is comfortable, not too tight or pinching him. The music isn't too loud. He doesn't have a preference of either windows up or down. I've tried all sorts of toys but nothing works. Has anyone ever gone through this? What should i do?! Is he just getting car sick? I almost feel stranded in my home since it is so horrible to drive anywhere. The poor boy cries so hard he spits up through his nose!! HELP!

What can I do next?

I am a mom of 2 boys, these are just some suggestions: Try talking to him. Even if he is screaming, just keep talking in a low toned voice, like look out the window at what ever is out there. Turn the music "up"! My son's LOVED the music up. Not super loud, but enough where he can't hear himself cry. Maybe find music "he" likes. or make sure he is not hungry, diaper changed, doesn't have gas, give him a comforting toy ie, blankie, pacifier, stuffed animal. Put a fun and calming sun blocker on the windows. Hang some toys around him so he can watch them or play. What about a DVD player and put some Sesame Street in there? My youngest used to scream in the car, but we just kept on trying different things and not long after he was ok with it. I hope you find what works.

My daughter was the same way until we turned the car seat around - at 9 months! She is now perfect in the car. I feel for you. I even switched daycare providers as the long car ride was killing me! My pediatrician suggested switching car seats and we tired, but that didn't help. I doubt he's car sick, he just want to see whats going on. He'll be ok. Hang in there girl!

I had a friend whose baby did the same thing. She finally outgrew it. I forget how old she was though. Have you checked with your pediatrician? My son used to do this to but not as in infant. He mostly stopped, not just does it when he is mad or wants something. The screaming is very hard to take after a while I definately know. Check with your pediatrician, get a second referral if you don't feel comfortable with the answer.

These are only suggestions.....First What kind of car do you have? Because when I have my ford expedition and my son was first born he cryed alot when we got in the car and i didnt understand why until i sat in the back one day while my husband drove to entertain him and it was hot even though the driver was cool due to it being so such a big SUV the air wasnt reaching him (the baby). So maybe he is hot! Next try singing nice calm songs to him so he wont think he is alone siince hes just staring at the back if the seat or into a mirror. Maybe this will help you I am not sure but GOODLUCK

have you tried playing childrens songs for him? I used to live an hour away from my job and my sons baby sitter and he would fuss also until I started play kids songs.
