I have a fabulous OB/Gyn that I've seen for a decade (I'm 35) who has helped me through dealing with, and having surgery for, endometriosis. I'm presently 8 months pregnant and she also was instrumental in getting us where we are today. The practice is great, something I'm seeing now as I make the rounds between the 5 doctors in preparation for labor and delivery.

The doc is Dr. Alice McKnight, and the practice is Physician's for Women. They are technically in Alexandria, but just outside portions of Arlington, roughly at Seminary Road and 395. www.physiciansforwomen.net

Their entire staff is responsive and caring. Dr. McKnight was referred to me by another woman who values docs who take their time and listen to their patients. She was the first doc who took the time to investigate my symptoms and actually follow through on my progress at each step and made sure that I am ok over time as my body changes. In short, she helped give me back my life and now has been excited to help us start a family!

I had a great experience with Women to Women - 5 female OBs who were all wonderful, patient, funny, supportive, etc.

Here is the website: http://womentowomenobgyncare.com

They are associated with Virginia Hospital Center in Arlington.

K.,
If you are looking for a women centered practice then midwifery care is the best way to go. Birthcare is the best midwifery practice that is close to you. They listen, take more time than any OB; and do look @ birth as a normal process and are there to be a partner with you in this process. There rate of C-section is lower than any OB practice as well.
Good luck,
L. M

If you want a caregiver who will spend time with you during appointments and in labor, in addition to BirthCare, you can also get your prenatal care with the DC Family Health and Birth Center. The Certified Nurse Midwives there also attend births at Washington Hospital Center.
