Dr. Brown's Bottles - Keller, TX

I am bottle feeding my 3 month old. After she was first born we used Avent bottles because that's what worked for my first child. However, this daughter developed too much gas so we switched to Dr. Brown's. I started using the standard ones (skinny and tall) and noticed an immediate improvement. But I didn't like the shape as much as the Avent so I switched to the wide-neck version. Could just be my imagination, but they don't seem to work as well as the skinnier ones at reducing gas. Has anyone else found this to be true? I think I might have to switch back to the regular Dr. Brown's but I hate to loose that money.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks so much for your input. I've decided to switch back to the standard size Dr. Brown's for now. Hopefully either the store where I bought the wider ones will take them back or I can get my money back from the manufacturer. If that doesn't work, then I'll check out a different line of bottles altogether.

I used the Dr. Browns bottles for several months before doing some research on the whole B.P.A. debate. If you haven't read up on it yet, I suggest you do, especially since you are a bottle feeding mom. Here is a link for the information. http://zrecs.blogspot.com/2007/11/z-report-bisphenol-in-b... My daughter had bad gas and spit-up. I found the perfect bottles to help both problems plus they have the perfect size, shape, colorful, and my daughter finds them easy to hold. The two best things about them is they are B.P.A. free and a great price. You can get them at Walmart for $11.96 for a 3-pack. They are the MAM ULTIvent bottles. They were a life-saver for my 6 month-old. I know that switching bottles means a loss of money, but its worth it for the health of your little one. I had to throw out 14 Dr. Browns bottles, so I can sympathize.

We used the tall and thin ones for a long time. I then bought a few of the small and fat ones but my daughter would not take to the different shape of the nipple. We went back to the tall and thin bottles. As she got older around 10 months we switched to Playtex Dropins...as long as I pushed out all the air she had no problem with them.

The only thing I hate about the Dr. Browns that if they fall on their side they leaked which is why we ended up switching to playtex once she was holding the bottle.

I think it's just your imagination, LOL. I breastfed all my babies first, then transitioned to formula/bottles and though the 15 years I've had kids I've used all kinds of bottles, and sometimes my kids had gas and sometimes they didn't. I used Avent with my last, and they worked fine. The best I've used though is the Playtex nursers imo for gas. Some babies just swallow air when they gulp, the nipples aren't much different, and doesn't make a difference if it's the way they are moving their mouths when suckling if they are taking in air. When you drink out of a wide necked open cup do you get gas? I think the Dr. Brown's are probably great, but their really just the 'new thing' so they are more expensive equalling more desireable. Maybe I'll bring back the old bottle and charge $10 a peice for them and everyone will rave about them! If your baby is more gas-prone make sure you are feeding him/her sitting upright, burping well, rub their tummy's when they are in pain with gas, and use Mylecon drops. My ex-mother in law passed me down the way to feed 'manzanilla' tea to them when they were gassy/collicy, and old hispanic tradition where you boil manzanilla leaves into a tea, strain, cool and you can add a bit of sugar and feed. I swear it does help, but probably more relaxes them because I've since learned 'manzanilla' is chamomile. So, with my youngest, when she was gassy I would just make it with the chamomile tea bags. Good luck;-)

I bottle fed my son the entire time and started with the short skinny Dr. Brown's then eventually sweitched to the tall skinny Dr. Brown's. I didn't start using the fatter ones until later on. I hated them. They seemed to leak a lot more. I dont know what it was.. But I preffered the tall skinny ones more. That was just me though

I breastfed my baby, but since I work, during the day he was getting bottle fed my breastmilk. We used Dr. Brown's bottles the whole time. I ended up never using the short and fat ones. We used tall and skinny the whole time and never had a problem. Although you hate to lose the money, I would recommend going back to what was working before. You will be more relaxed about it and you will have a happier baby! Good luck.

I used both and had no problems. BUT if you don't like them, switch back. You may be able to sell them on eBay if you want to recoup some $$... or if you go to their website and call them, I'd bet they'd work with you to get you your $$ back.
Well, I would HOPE so.
GOod luck.
