Dr. Brown's Bottles

I'm not sure if anyone else had tried this or not but I thought I would throw it out there. Has anyone successfully used just a nipple and ring on the glass Dr. Brown's bottles without them leaking. I've noticed that the patented technology doesn't help my little guy what so ever but I still want the benefit of using a glass bottle. Right now I'm just using a generic nipple and ring from the hospital but you are not supposed to re-use the nipple andthe Dr. Brown's nipple, if used with the generic ring tends to collapse during the feeding. Any suggestions mamas?! Can you buy just a plain old ring and nipple or do you have to buy a whole new bottle? Happy Mother's day BTW!

What can I do next?

You should be able to just buy some other nipples. I am not 100% sure though. Since he is collapsing the nipple that is generally a sign that the flow is not great enough for his suck. Most bottle brands have different stages for that reason, different ages need different flows.

Back when my babies 17,16,12 were using the occasional bottle, if the flow wasn't great enough, you just heated a pin and poked the end of the nipple, that simple to get a bigger hole so it won't collapse. Hope this helps.

Hi,

My two were breastfed almost exclusively, so I am not a bottle expert, but sometimes they needed to have a bottle of my milk. I know nothing about Dr. Brown's bottles.

I have never heard of a reason not to re-use a nipple, as long as you are cleaning it properly between uses. I'd say if what you have works, keep using it.

For the Dr. Brown's bottles, you actually need all the parts to make it not leak - the rubber part, the tube, the ring....you can use other brand nipples, but the other parts need to be there to keep it from leaking, and for the bottle to work as it's designed to work.

The only place where I've seen "replacement parts" is at Babies-r-Us. But even Walgreen's carries the bottles now.
