Where should I donate some infant clothes and toys, good to excellent condition, in the Twin Cities? Most of the stuff was given to me, so I'd like to make sure that it gets passed on (NOT sold) to someone who can use it.

So What Happened?

Thanks for all the wonderful, thoughtful suggestions. As a newcomer, it's nice to get a sense of the social services network, too. I'm gathering up my clothes and toys to give away as we speak.

Keystone Community Services is a good place to donate cloths. The one in the midway area on Univesrsity Ave about one block east of fairview is a good location.

I would suggest going through your local church. I know our church is always having some sort of donation drives for children and families in need. Otherwise I'm not sure if places like the crisis nursery would take gently used items.

Sharing & Caring Hands is a great organization and the things go to families who use the items right away. We donate to them frequently.

HEllo, I work in a homeless Shelther that only houses Women and Children. The Shelter accepts Donations of clothes, toys and gently used small appliances to help furnish homes (such as a kitchen). THe shelter does not, however, accept bigger donations such as stoves, beds, or furniture. (No room for such items) The name of the shelter is Dakota Woodlands in Eagan. The phone number is ###-###-####. Hope you get a lot of good ideas and hope that something works out for you.

One of those Crisis Pregnancy Centers just look up "pregnancy" in the yellow pages I believe and you'll find several.

Joseph's coat on West 7th in St. Paul is a great place. Everything is free, and you can bring more than just clothes if you have other things to get rid of. They have limited hours for drop off, so I would call first.

I think a battered woman's shelter would be great. I'm unsure about any in particular.
