I have a friend in OK who travels a few times a year, she found the best thing to do is place her dog with her vet for boarding while she is gone. She knows that Xena will receive top notch care (and at a reasonable price) and has the bonus of a few friends to spend the time with ; ) Might be worth looking into.

I would check the yellow pages for local companies that provide 'dog boarding' ...that is what we have done, the one I found was also a local vet.

We just returned from a week vacation. We had our dog walker house sit our dogs for us. It was cheaper than boarding, and way less stressful on the dogs. Look up dog walkers/dog sitters. There is an award winning service in LA, they were our back up choice.

Call your local vet. If they don't board pets, they may know of a service.
If they do board, they won't tell you of the service.
Call your local pet stores or walk in to look at the boards.
We have dog sitters all over in our area.
I happened to find them by signs on the road or their advertisements.
What about a trusted neighbor, friend or co-worker?
Google dog sitter's in your area.
