Does anyone know how long dr.'s will leave you on progesterone? One dr. said 8 weeks another said 12-15 weeks and the pharmacist said that he usually sees about 15-20 weeks. I am at a loss. The dr.'s I see are at a clinic and I see a different one each time and I am wondering how long I should push for since they all have diferent opinions. Thanks for the help in advance.

I had to take progesterone with both of my pregnancies. My doctor kept me on it my entire first trimester. I was able to stop taking it after I was 12 weeks. Two of my close friends have had to take it as well, and they both took it throughout their first trimesters, too. Good luck and congrats on baby number three!

I was on it till 13 weeks and until an ultrasound confirmed the placenta was fully "developed" and everything looked good.

My doctor said there are many mixed opinions about the effectiveness of it's use so you may see how long it's used differ from one person to the next.

I work at an OB/GYN office in springfield and I believe that most of our doctors leave people on the progesterone for the first 12-15 wks depending on your history. If you have had multiple pregnancy losses then I would say the longer the better.

We had a miscarriage because I was not on a strong enough dose, they next time the doctor left me on it I believe almost the entire pregnancy, ~ this was all new to us because with our 9 1/2 year old DD I did not have to take it all. BUT when tried to get PG 5 years later my body had changed, I was on a low dose with the PG we lost but we got waited the three moths after the loss on the very next month we were blessed with our son ( who is now 3) ~ so like the other post said it will alldepened on your body and how much of you are needidng for that PG.

I think it really depends on your test results. If they talk about taking you off the medication the ask for a blood test. I think it's well after 12 weeks but I've known of women that went much longer because of poor placental placement or growth.

My doctor kept me on it only through the first trimester. It seemed like this was the common practice and not because of my particular cicumstances.

My first baby was conceived via IVF and I had to remain in progesterone until I was 9 1/2 weeks pregnant. My doctor did a blood test and the levels were so high that he said my body had to be making progesterone on its own, so I was allowed to stop. In the IVF world it seems like most people I know took it the first trimester and then were bale to stop because typically by that point the placenta is now functioning and making the progesterone.

I have had to take progesterone for all 3 of my pregnancies. You are suppose to stay on it until you pass the 1st trimester. With my 1st I was on it until 16 wks because my dr forgot to recommend stopping. With my 2nd and 3rd I was on until 13 weeks.

I took it through the first trimester. After that I was able to stop. Depending on your situation probably depends how long. I went to a fertility specialist and that is what they had me do. Hope this helps.

My doctor always does 12 weeks as does my friend's doctor. (She was on it for 12 weeks for all 4 of her children.)

Hi A.!

I am 38 weeks pregnant and was on progesterone supplements for this pregnancy. I began the supplements when I ovulated and continued them through the first trimester. From what I have read, the length of the first trimester is the usual amount of time to use the hormone to allow the placenta to develop enough to sustain the pregnancy. I think that there may be such a variance in time with your doctors because there really is very little studies as to why this works. My advice, would be to read, read, read all you can and then take that back to your docs. They should be receptive to what you have researched. Good Luck!
