Yes... we do as well. Just curious who else did. (we know many friends who do not.)

I have two thermostat settings - 68 in the winter and 78 in the summer. I do not deviate. Now if I had a guest over and they complained they were too hot or too cold I would probably accomodate them or offer them a jacket (if it was winter). Otherwise I would leave it be.

Yes, I do, unless we are going to sit outside anyways. I don't like AC, but I don't want people to feel uncomfortable when they are in my house.

Uh, yes! Except it's not for the guests, if it's 83 out, the AC is on for us! Especially if someone else is here. There's nothing worse than being invited to someone elses home and walking into a humid stuffy room full of people. It's rude.

Our house doesn't have A.C. we just shoo our guests out into the yard and hose them down.

It depends on how hot it is inside the house, not outside. I keep the AC set on 80 degrees and it rarely comes on here, even when it's much hotter outside.
We have the other problem, a long cold season and I do turn the heat up or turn on the gas fireplace when people come over.

Most people in the Rocky Mountain West and Pacific Northwest don't have AC--but it still gets HOT during the summer (my house can get to 90 degrees, for a couple weeks in August). We just give them another cold beer and that seems to do the trick!

i dunno. if it were really humid, i probably would. if it was a pleasant 83 with a nice breeze, i might just have windows open and maybe a fan. i guess it would depend on the guest.
i like AC if it's really hot and humid out, but i don't rush to turn it on as soon as it gets over 70 like so many do.
sort of a moot point in this house. the guys love their AC and the house is generally colder than i'm comfortable with.

Whatever my thermostat is set to is where it stays. I have my ceiling fans running during the day, every day and my thermostat is usually set to 78-79 degrees. It's fine for me and if it's still too hot for someone else, oh well. I get annoyed when people come over and complain my house is too cold.

YES absolutely. HOwever we rarely have this problem. Hubby and I keep are our house VERY cold in the summer. We feel its not worth the extra $20 per month it cost too keep the house a couple degrees colder.
Usually people come to our house and rave about how well they slept..well its because they had a crisp cold room. :)
We have it set at 69 in the summer and 68 in the winter. We have also been known to turn the AC on one day and the heat on the next or vice versa..ha ha

Yeah. I used to live in an apartment in TX that was pretty expensive to keep cool. I didn't mind the heat too much, so I just ran a fan, and used the AC to keep it below the WAAY too hot mark. BUT if I knew someone was coming by, I would turn it to a more reasonable temp.

Yes, for sure! I hate going to someones house and it's too hot OR too cold. I understand about keeping the bills low, but if you are having people over, you usually buy different food/ beverages, for the occasion, why not turn the AC on b/4 they get there to make it comfortable for them when they walk in the door. Or if it starts getting warm after they have been at the home, be sure to ask if they are comfortable and to be sure to let you know if they get too hot or to cold. They will appreciate it.

In the winter time, we keep our heat at 68 degrees, we are used to this temp, but my parents aren't. They feel its too cold. When they come over, I turn it up for them. So I assume, I'd do the same with the A.C.

I live in the "deep south" and no, I wouldn't. Why? Because we already have it on for ourselves... so no need to turn it on "for someone else". LOL It was in the 90's over this past weekend.
I like it set around 76 most of the time.... so it would never GET to 83 in our house, unless the A/C was broken.

Depends on the guest. We have friends who never have their A/C on - even on 90 degree days - why bother having an A/C? I make my visits to her house in the Summer short. We make sure to have ours on for any quests who have health / breathing problems, elderly people etc. But if it's just kids and they are going to be running in and out, going in thepool etc. - then no.

Yes I would turn it on, if it was 83 inside. If I had fans running and it brought the temp down to low 70's then I would not turn on the a/c.

Well, we live in Hawaii and our house actually was designed with no glass in some windows (It has that sort of privacy fencing with bug netting over it.) I guess it is a really common practice here. As such we have no AC or heating anywhere as we can't even close the windows and would AC the outside.

100% of the time, if there's a guest, I will try to turn on the air to accomodate. If I really have a problem (like wanting the air in the 60s in Texas summer, then I will do it the first time and just not invite them back again). Now my mom, she is psycho with the cold. She thinks 74 is freezing. I bought an electric blanket and keep it in the guest room armoir, and plenty of throws so that she can stay warm in the living room or whatever. She can have that. I will not turn the heat up to tropical.

Yes, I would turn on the ac for a guest if I didn't have it on already. I live in Columbus, too, but I can't tolerate the heat, so I turned my ac on for part of Sun when it got up to 83. It's off now, of course.
