Do You like Long Hair on Boys?

Its fine either way.
If its long, as long as they don't look like a helmet head or a mop head.
At least keep it shaped nicely.
And conversely, I don't like buzzed hair on little kids.
On Men, well that's a different thing.

I personally hate the Bieber hair.

No and I absolutely dislike mowhawks, especially on little kids who have no say in the style their parents chose.

I think it depends on both the boy and the hair... I don't outright love or hate either.

Which may well be why I don't care about the length of boys hair. I don't think of boys as sexy. (Eeeew. Icky. Gross.) They can do what they like with their hair. Although mullets have always creeped me out. Sigh. So that's probably how my own son will rebel.

My husband grows his hair out to about his shoulders, and then shaves it. Once a year. (I wish my hair grew that fast!!!! Maybe if I shaved my head??)

However, our neighbors have two boys. She's been growing out the youngest ones since he was born. When he was a baby, she'd pin his bangs back with a barrette, and then get mad when people said "Oh, what a cute little girl!" Now that he's five, he has VERY long, wavy, silky blonde hair. Everyone thinks he's a girl. She gets mad. Well, duh. He looks like a girl. He's getting ready to start K next year, and I feel really bad for him.

Some boys look really cute with long hair and some just look silly. In my opinion wavy hair looks cuter than straight when it grows out. Past the shoulder looks ridiculous on any guy , young or old.

I hate it, across the board, hands down, yuck.

I don't mind either way (my husband sometimes grows his hair long- he has the nicest hair in our family (we have four daughters)... BUT any boys STYLED HAIR to me I hate... Have it long, but PLEASE don't style it! Like that combed over the face bangs all to one side looks stupid... and that short hair that has the "bangs" styled straight up (when it naturally doesn't do it) looks stupid, etc...

I hate it but I'm also a firm believer in the bible. The bible says that long hair for a man is a disgrace because men were made in the image of God. Long hair is good for a woman because it is a covering for her head when she prays. I forgot the actual verses but it's in there. So thats my 2 cents. Good luck.

hate it! I hate having to guess if a child is a boy or girl.

I have always kept my kids hair short. Until this school year. I had given my oldest a mohawk. His teacher told me the first day of school he had to shave it all off. I was pissed. We are a mohawk family. In june we normally do a curly mo with my middle.

Anyways, My oldest says he wants it long enough to do a ponytail, like our next door neighbor. So, he is getting to grow it out.

My middle one has a head full of ringlet curls. He does not want me to cut it. He also doesnt want me to comb it. so since we already have it grown out to his shoulders, I am letting it naturally dreadlock!! It is in the yuck stage right now. so keeping it clean is important.

My youngest I am not sure what we are going to do. He is a short hair kid....I may just keep that the norm for him...until he is old enough to give me his say.

HATE IT ! ! ! ! I like the traditional short hair for boys and men and long hair for girls and women.

I don't think men should have long hair or women should have short hair.

I think women with buz cuts or almost buz cuts look awful. I think men should dress and look like men and women should dress and look like women.

Just my opinion...longer is okay, but long does not look good.

mine is four and he has the long (ISH) trendy hair right now -a little past his ears and a little long in the back, but not covering his eyes or touching his shoulders- i keep it trimmed - yes it can get scruffy looking but only when he's playing and getting dirty, and i'm not real concerned about his looks at that point. it's gorgeous when it's clean, full of curls and shiny. and since he's four i have no problem with him being "beautiful". he is a beautiful child. i wouldn't cut off those curls for anything - least of all to make him look more "boyish". i wouldn't know what to do with a little boy with a buzz cut. but i think all kids are different. some boys are more "tough" and "boyish" and i guess their features look good with buzzed heads. what i can't stand is seeing little boys with that preppy gelled look.

I let my sons choose after 15 but before then, I chose. I believe it's healthier and easier to maintain short hair for boys as they're more active. Girls can use hair bobs and such to maintain some semblance of neatness but a boy cannot without ridicule.

Kinda depends...if it's kinda curly and they have sort of that surfer shag look going on, I think that can look really cute...but if it's really long and straight and looking more like girl's hair, I don't care for it. Same goes for when little boys who have mullets, rat tails, mohawks, etc. - I know it's only hair, but I still don't like it. My stepson grew a rat tail when he was between 7 and 8 - his mom didn't care, but it took all my willpower not to snip it off while he was sleeping.

I agree with Victoria. I also have a 13 year old son, and he wears his hair long, although yesterday he agreed to cut it shorter. I made and appointment today to have it cut on Wednesday. Yay! He has beautiful, thick hair, but it is always a mess when it's long. I don't like it at all, but I don't mind him choosing his hairstyle. There are plenty of other issues that I will put my foot down on. Hair isn't one of them. I am so excited about him choosing to go for a shorter style, though. :)

I like short, clean-cut hair on boys and men. My hubby and son both keep theirs very short and my little one has his a little longer but still a typical boy cut. His hair is thin whereas my hubby and older son have very thick, coarse hair and as it grows out gets poofy.

Probably b/c I grew up with a dad who thought all boys with long hair were hippies, parasites of society, and into drug, sex and rock n roll. And at the time that was probably close to the truth...

But I say better enjoy it now while they have it.

There are so many other more important battles to have with my 8 year old, like homework and limiting screen time and being kind to his sister, that his hair is his choice. I want it clean and combed and he can choose the style. I do wish he would get it trimmed a little for shape but he just wants to let it grow and hang in his eyes. Its his choice. He does sometimes get confused for a girl and we've discussed that consequence of his choice but he's dealing with it.

My son was 4 yrs old when he told me he wanted a mohawk. I told him no way he wanted one cause he was extremely shy. I told him we would wait and see. For the next four months every other day I had to listen to my son beg for a mohawk. I finally gave in and gave him one. That was 6 and half years ago. He still have long hair that when down you can't tell he has a mohawk cut. But when we put it up we have a good 8 to 10 inches of hair straight up in the air.
If the guy/boy cares for his hair then long hair isnt an issue for me. My husband at first was against long hair since he is in the air force but I stood my ground for my boys to have that choice.

I think it depends on the hair and what it looks like on the kid. I have a nephew who has long hair that he combs forward into his eyes and then is constantly shaking his head to the side so he can see. Sooo annoying! Why not just stop combing your hair into your face in the first place??!! 15 year olds, lol!!!

I have another nephew that has longer hair and I think it looks cute on him, but then again, he doesn't shake his hair out of his face because he doesn't comb it into his face in the first place!! :)

I HATE long hair on boys :( My nephews (and I have 8 of them) all look like hippies (and one of them has curly hair that poofs out something horrible). I just don't know what the deal is. I have 1 son and 1 on the way and they will NOT be having any long-hair hippie 'dos as long as I am in control of the cutting shears! :P

no! I can't stand it! When ever you have an innocent boy in the movies or on tv- he has long hair. It drives me nuts! I dont' keep my boys hair buzz cut, but I do like to keep them neat with short hair- plus I dont' have to fight them to brush their hair either!

Hate it. But, my son is almost 13 and has very strong opinions about how he wears his hair. Has for YEARS. So I let him have a LOT of say about how he wears it. And he has worn it much longer than I prefer (although not as long as some I have seen, lol--and never long enough to pull it back in a hairband/ponytail). It just isn't a battle that I choose to have. There will be more important things to argue over soon enough.

Depends on the boy AND the cut...my son has had buzz cuts AND fairly longer (beatles-esque) hair in his 8 years. Right now he prefers it a bit longer. Just so long does not equal sloppy is OK with me.

I like it on baby/toddlers. My son had the most beautiful blond curly hair, I hated to cut it because they never came back. I don't like it so much on older boys, I definitely prefer super short.

I liked it on David Cassidy (as Keith Partridge) and it certainly worked well for Fabio but I don't think it really works very well for most boys/men.
There's a boy in my son's taekwondo class with long blonde hair (shoulder length) - it's always in his eyes and because he doesn't take care of it - it looks horrible - like stringy rat tails by the end of the day.
But his Mom just gushes over what special/individual kid her son is and she thinks his awful hair is some kind of badge or something. He's only 9 and he's already getting tired of people calling him "Miss".
One of these day this kid is going to rebel by visiting a barber and it would be interesting to see how his Mom reacts to it.
My son has had a brush cut since he was 3 yrs old. It's so easy to care for, it always looks good, and I'm far less fearful of his picking up lice when his hair is nice and short all the time.

Not really though it depends on the cut I guess. I like to see a person's face at least. And it is really annoying when they have to keep brushing the hair out of their faces while talking. My son does not like long hair--is overdue for a haircut and time ahs not been on our side lately so he is not happy. But I also hate crew-cuts (army cuts) or whatever you want to call them.
But I would prefer long hair over pants falling down.

It depends on the kid. Some little boys look cute and some don't. My 8 yo is growing his hair long because he wants it to stick out of his football helmet...I am ok with it it's his hair, he had long hair at 3 because he wanted to look like a rock star so we aren't strangers to long hair.

I have always kept my son's hair short. Nice, handsome cuts. He went through a phase where he wanted to grow it out a bit like some of the other boys, and it just turned into a huge pain. It was messy, stuck up everywhere. He hated it. He's not one for spending too much time on his hair so he likes it shorter.
I see all these "Bieber" boys who want the long hair over their faces and frankly, I think they need a hair cut.

I know one boy with the most beautiful curly hair and he has let it grow out a bit and it looks great on him. I'd pay money to have that kid's hair. But, for the most part, I don't like the hair in the eyes and prefer things shorter. So does my son.

I like it short, like 1/2 in. to an 1 in. on top and buzzed on the sides. I just think it looks better short.

Kept my son's hair neat for years - until about 3rd grade, then he was old enough to express an opinion.

He wanted to let his hair grow. It got to be almost shoulder length by 6th grade. He started school in a new district, was one of 2 boys with long hair, caved and had it cut short.

He hated it and has kept it longish ever since. Currently in 9th grade, his hair is almost to his shoulders, bangs to his chin with plans to let it keep growing.

It is his hair - I am not going to stress over it.

On boys/young boys I like the clean cut hair easy to tame comb & style anything more to me I say cut it already,the rat tails,mohawks,over the eyes shagginess to me I wouldn't like it but if he wanted to try it then i'll have to be ok we will try but.....As a mom of 1 son I have his hair cut every month just Saturday he wanted it shorter so I was OK with that he is going on 8 & is beginning to discuss with me his likes/dislikes so he is developing into his own person more so now & will continue to do so now it's time for mom to take a step back & breath.Just this afternoon I seen a 2 yr old with a freakin mohawk it was a baby one but really I had to take a second look.And yes dad shaved his head a few summers ago only 1 time & that was it he will never do that again.

I personally hate it but my 17 year old granddaughter has been dating the same boy for nearly 5 years, and when I met him he had long shaggy hair (Her hair was cut very butch, she'd get mad and cut it) and now he has a mohawk, about a 8 inch one, and my granddaughter had hair to misback till last week or so, then she gave herself an undercut (Shaved on one side, like a laying down mohawk.)
As much as I dislike how she and her boyfriend dress (Hes very veyr punk, like 70s spikey leather jacket and huge boots, shes a more feminine version) I love them both dearly and I jsut wish that they'd show the worl dhow sweet they are. They look so agressive!
But at this point I wouldn't even have the energy to fight with them, 7 or 17. She has much bigger things (College, work, grades) to worry about than her hair. I was mad when it first happened though.

I do think it depends on the boy too, but I also don't like it if a boy's hair is long but stringy. If you're going to grow it out it should at least be lush! ;)

Some men and some boys look good with long hair, some don't - just like some girls and some women look good with long hair and some don't.

As for hair length and gender, I don't need to know if a stranger's child has dangly bits or not.

I like short hair too, but I suppose if it was kept brushed and neat some boys can pull it off. But I do not like the Justin B hair!!!

I think it depends...I don't see anything wrong with it being on the long side, I don't like to see boys with hair so long they can actually put it in a ponytail though. A little shaggy cute (kept neat of course) can be pretty cute. If your son thinks he'd like to try it long, let him. You are the parent and have the authority to cut if off if you don't like it.

As far as looks? It can depend on the boy and how well the hair is taken care of.
Personally, for my own child, I figure that one of the benefits of having a boy is not having to deal with long hair issues. I'll be happy to allow him to grow it long when he can care for it himself.

I dont like the long blond curls that people think looks cute on young boys -too girlie. It makes me think the parents wanted a girl. The "Justin Bieber" longish hair is very popular with the tweens and young teens, I dont love it but it is OK.

I think it's fine depending on the boy's reason for wanting it long and as long as the hair is well cared for.

NNOOOOOOO can't stand it! Esp. when the child has 'fine' features and oyou can't tell if it is a girl or a boy. there is nothing like a summer buzz cut on alittel boy - SOOOOO cute.

Hate hate hate shorter hair cuts! It needs a little length. Even when my boys get it cut we leave some length to it. Basically out of the eyes, trimmed above the ears and a tad over the collar and just a little shaping/layering to the overall head so it's not all blunt cut then it grows out for months before it gets cut again. My husband used to be able to pull his hair back. He has to keep it shorter for work and I hate when he gets it cut. He tries to keep as much length as he can without it being considered "unprofessional".
Men used to wear long hair and powdered wigs. Fashion, hair cuts, the whole nine yards is subjective and fads my family never cares about. Always liked longer hair on a guy, always will. My boys like the longer hair too. They look really good with it too! Could care less what public opinion or tends say :)

Personally, I dislike hair that is extremely long or extremely short. Shaggy is fine by me.

I really can't stand it when boys have long hair. There have been times when I really can't tell if it's a boy or girl. I buzz my son's hair myself about once a month and we keep it very short. My husband was a marine and he also can't stand long hair. He has me give him a buzz about once a month also

I love longer hair, don't care so much for really short. But it partly depends on the head, and the hair. Long and greasy or frizzy is pretty horrible.

My three boys are too young to decide (5, 3, and 9 months) for themselves, so I cut it short. My oldest is in kindergarten at a private school and he's only allowed to wear it short. I do not like long hair on boys.

It depends on what type of long hair you are meaning. If you mean the 70's look where their hair looks as horrible as possible - no, I think it's awful. If it's a longer look, but still shorter on the sides, just longer on top (I guess kind of like Ryan Seacrest, only a bit longer on top), then I think that's fine. I don't like long girlie hair on boys, no matter how young they are. I keep my boy's hair pretty short. The sides always shorter than the top. But I will sometimes let the top be a bit longer. He likes to wear it kind of crazy on top. But we avoid the 70's look at all costs...

Some kids can pull it off and others can not. For the most part I do not like it...but I do have to say at that point where my boys need haircuts, ya know when they are looking a lil' scruffy, I LOVE their hair when they wear baseball hats! They are so CUTE with a little hair sticking out. My oldest has straight hair that sticks out and looks really cute and my youngest has uber curly hair that curls around the edges and is absolutely ADORABLE! I usually let it go for a few weeks but I always eventually buzz it back down short!

I personally do not like long hair on guys of any age. I think it looks messy and sloppy. My 5 yr old nephew has hair to to the center of his back and it drives me nuts. You have to look into his face to tell him apart from his sister and it is always in the way.

That being said, once the child is old enough to care for his own hair I believe that he should have a say in how it is styled. My best friend's 5 yr old son has a mohawk that he maintains himself and he wears it with confidence, so it looks great.

I think some kids look cute - but my sons hair does not look good long. He has wirey hair. We do a 1 on the sides and 3 on top buzz cut and mowhawk in summer time with colored hair gel!!! :)

Personally, I like boys to have short hair. I really dislike it when parents leave the little tail of hair at the end or even braid it--drives me nuts! No offense to anyone-- :) But long hair---rarely can a boy pull of this look without it looking sloppy to me. Just my opinion.

this is so funny. I asked a similar question earlier today (about MY son's long hair) and got lots of responses. People really do have an opinion about this, don't they!? My son has long blond hair past his shoulders. He looks like a little surfer and I think he looks wonderful. Whenever he wants to cut it, he may. I think it's important to give children the choice. They have so little control over these kinds of things when they are young...

I do not like brush cuts/buzz cuts on boys...but don't like it when it covers their eyes or over their ears...They're boys not girls. I like it long enough to "tossle" their hair...

I've always liked a little bit of a layered "mop top" on my son, less Bieber, more Beatles, if you see what I mean.

Hate it. Often it seems messy and I just don't see the point. To me, long hair can be "pretty". I'm old fashioned but I don't see why anyone should want their boy to look "pretty". I've not even kept my daughters' hair long most of the time bc it's so hard to keep neat and some people look better in shorter hair. So boys I really don't get... I have never liked long hair on men either though. I was madly in love with an old boyfriend who was strikingly handsome. Apparently years before, he had long hair and I refused to look at the pictures of him like that. I just wonder why a male wants long hair. Do they want to braid it? Blowdry it? Fuss with it like a girl? I suppose I'm sexist but I don't find it masculine.
