When Did You Give Your Baby Their First Haircut?

I had 3 baldies... My first 2 didn't have hair until 2, 2 1/2 years ;) I don't mind my 17 month old SON being so bald, but he's got these long wispy hairs over his ears that drive me nuts, he looks like bozo the clown. I'd love to wait and see if it curls (NONE of my kids got my super curly hair, SO bummed)... but my fiance, when he doesn't shave his head, has curly hair too. Even if my son is my only kid with curly hair, I'd be so happy!! ANYWAY, I'm debating whether or not to cut these little wisps by his ears and the back of his neck to make him look like a handsome little man instead of an unkempt toddler ;) What would you do? I don't want to do it and then be upset with myself that I did. How old was your child when you gave the their first haircut??

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

YES @ Margie, he's in the wedding... sort of. I can't trust him to not eat the rings, so my BILs will be doing that, but the baby will be walking down the aisle :)

I had my son's hair cut right after his 1st birthday. People were starting to ask how old SHE was. He had wispy blond baby hair but now at 2 he has the most adorable wavy thick blond toddler hair, I love it! I'm a little jealous :) In the last year he's had 2 more hair cuts.

My son was a baldy too. He didnt get his first haircut until he was over 2. He had the cutest curls but it got to the point where he would wake up from his nap mid day and look like a train wreck. I finally had to part with the curls and we buzzed his head. :( Beware, though, it makes them look SO much older! :( He looked handsome, but so grown up. I still have a full ziplock bag of his curls I will be keeping.....forever. :)

I think my first two were just before or just after their first birthdays. I would have cut them much earlier but I had some people tell me that "you aren't supposed to cut their hair before a year!!" I think that is some tradition or superstition, but I made myself wait that year and then celebrated that they didn't look like girls anymore. :) Some boys wear the long hair really well but my boys are "pretty" and get mistaken for girls, so I give them buzz cuts every few months. I have never been emotional or sentimental about hair (including my own--I'd shave it if my husband would let me) but I know a lot of moms are. Baby curl won't determine if he'll have curly hair later on and cutting it won't affect that, so I'd say cut away. If you'd cut it eventually, there's no harm in doing it now.

my kids both had tons of hair. I love the wispys!!! But we waited until after their first birthdays to get theirs cut, but we took them to get their picture taken first with their long hair. I'm still laughing at the bozo the clown comment LOL

Heh, this totally reminded me of my oldest, who was also, well, he had a natural mohawk until around 2.5 as well. ANyway, a friend of mine knew a woman that would trim her baby's hair to the same length all over his head(she said it made the hair grow faster, for me it was like shaving, giving the appearance of thicker hair) but I did this young on him, maybe around one year. It was getting all long and wispy on the top, and he started looking all '90's grunge'', and I said "thats it!" and trimmed it down. He didn't seem to mind. My daughter on the other hand, with a very thick head of hair at 16 mos, will fight me to no end if I touch it, if you want to trim it, and he'll let you do it, I say go for it!
Also, though, I was a cosmetologist, but it isn't that hard

I had to wait until they got hair. :o)

My girls were probably 3-3 1/2. My little guy was 2 1/2. We had a lady over and she saw the kids running around and said oh how lovely 3 little girls. My husband said That one is a boy and he's getting his hair cut.
So that week we cut his wispy curls. He was my only one with curls, the girls have bone straight stringy hair.

UNkepmt toddlers are cute, is he in the wedding?

My current baby had his hair cut at 2 months old. He's 5.5 months old now and has had a total of 3 hair cuts. I can't stand the hair over the ears or long on the neck. And I like boys to look like boys.

Both of my kids were 4! My son had sandy brown curls and he has huge dimples and those long curls!! O he was a doll. My baby didn't have hair until about 3 but she was sitting on it at her 4 th bday so I cut it all off! Shoulder length and it looks great! I personally wouldn't cut the wispys. I like it!

I can't advise one way or the other but I will say this, it makes them look older. We took my son some time after his first birthday and he was such a cute baby. As soon as the "baby curls" were cut off, he no longer looked like a baby, he was a big boy suddenly. It was quite a shock to me, I did not think that having the wispy stuff cut off would make such a drastic impression but for him it did. So be sure of what you want in the wedding pictures before having his hair cut or not.

My daughter was born with a full head of hair and it never fell out. At six months I took her to a kids salon and she sat still for a real bob with bangs. She has always had a ton of hair....even now at 17 people will ask her if she has extensions or is wearing fake eyelashes. That's just her!

If the wisps drive you nuts, cut them. My son was quite a bit older but that's just the way some kids' hair grows. If you don't like how it looks, you can always have a kid's barber clean it up a little. Sometimes they have things to keep the child occupied and holding still, sometimes the child sits in Mommy's lap while the barber does a quick trim. Or your can try it yourself while he's sleeping or in the high chair. Try not to worry about it - most people think kids are adorable no matter what's with their hair!

Hey R.!!!

Greg got his first hair cut when he was 16 months old. Like Roman - he didn't have much hair and what he did have was soooo toe-head white that you couldn't see it! :)

I would just trim the ones around the ears!!

Getting excited yet? Everything falling into place?! Three weeks to go!!! Can't wait to see the pics!!!

With my oldest daughter, I can't remember, but she had lots of curls, and once we cut it, they never came back. My middle daughter was 20 months, and my 15 month old daughter has not been cut yet, but will need her bangs cuts soon, they are starting to get in her eyes.

DS was born with a full head of hair. We waited until a year for his first hair cut - mostly because that's what everyone told us to do. The stylist probably took off 3 inches at his first cut and that still left him with long shaggy curls. I would love to have his hair.

My son was born a big bald baby. Literally- no eyelashes or eyebrows either. He is almost 3 1/2 and just started getting haircuts in the last 9 months.

My daughter is almost 2 and has not had a haircut and I'm not planning on cutting her hair for a few more years. She has beautiful spiral curls all over her head.
