I have a small one and a large one. Both are Cuisinart. The small one is perfect for smaller projects and barely takes up any space. It's good quality. It was about $20 at BBB with a coupon, if I recall.
Hey mamas! I am looking into buying a food processor, and I'm totally overwhelmed. I want something that will help me chop veggies efficiently so it doesn't take me for ever. I'm mainly wanting it for oniions, garlic, tomatoes, bell peppers, etc. I also don't want it to take up a whole cabinet all by itself, or take an hour to clean. Last but not least, I don't want to spend over $200. TIA!!

I am not sure it would work for what you want, but I have a magic bullet and I LOVE IT. It is small and easy to clean. I use it almost every day. I make steamed milk, and it froths it up for me. I shred cheese and meat with it. I make alfredo. It tends to liquify anything that has any juice to it, so unless you were making tomato sauce ;) I have a friend that I gave one too and she claims that she can do onions with it...so maybe. I just don't use it for that. I use a knife :) But it is $50 and if you don't like it you can always regift it
I like my (very) small Black & Decker Handy Chopper Plus.
I've owned 2 large processors but NEVER used them.
I like this little O..
Cuisinart has the greater name recognition. I use a 4 cup for what you listed, it was about $25 (@ Costco, I think).
The larger sizes come with the dough mixing blade, and the various shredding & slicing blades used with the feed tube.
Take care not to break any of the small plastic parts on the bowl & lid that slide & lock into place, they can be expensive to replace.
I used a Black & Decker for 25 years before the motor wore out and I went through the same search you are now.
I have a Cuisinart Prep 11 Plus and love it. Although when I got it I thought I would use it for everything, but I only use it every now and again. I got mine off of ebay and it was in perfect shape. It will shread cheese in a second and is awesome!!!
Love my ninja. It is the easiest to clean!
I (heart) my cuisinart.
I have a 14 year old one and love it; it's an 11 cup size. I use it whenever I make soups to save my hands and wrists on the potatoes and carrots, and guacamole is a snap. I was given the basic unit, and a separate self-locking case with blades for 2mm, 4mm and grating, as well as a dough blade. Love the thing.
I do have to do some prechopping, but this is pretty minimal. For garlic and other things you want minced, you just have to bring it down to a one-inch dice before running it.
My trick with this tool is that I clean it as soon as I'm finished. I don't have a dishwasher, so I just use a bit of detergent and hand wash it immediately. I've found this to be really helpful-- nothing really sticks to it. It's much more work when stuff is dried on, otherwise it usually will just rinse away. It stores fairly easily too. Mine's on my counter and takes up little space, and the blades are stored in a hard to reach corner.
Have fun cooking, whatever you choose!

The classic. Cuisinart.
I have had an "Emmie" -the same one-for over two decades-you may also want to try a mandoline.
