Do You Ever Really Relax?

So, this is the first time today I have been able to sit down and chill out for a little bit. But I cant help but think of all of the clothes in the laundry room that needs to be hung up and put away while Im sitting here, also, the dishes need to be put away. Its not very relaxing thinking about all the stuff that needs to be done. Do you ever really relax?

What can I do next?

Once in a blue moon, I'll take a nice, hot bubble bath (sometimes with a glass of wine) and a good book. Of course, this only happens after putting my daughter to bed, and only on very rare occasions... So, yes, but it is DEFINITELY not a regular event!

Wow, I guess I'm in the minority here. I try to relax every night. This evening, for example, I'm picking up Chinese food on my way home from work. I'll get home, play around with the kids, we'll have dinner. Kids' lights out by 8:30. So I'll read and relax (and maybe romance my husband!) until I go to sleep around 10:00. If I can manage to stay up that late!!

Only when I am sleeping.

I was just thinking about this the other day. I am so thankful I am a good sleeper (that is, when the kids are not waking me up) or else I would never give my body a chance to really unwind.

Even when I get a professional massage, at least a few minutes of that hour I will be thinking about what I have to do when I get off that table!

I'm the same way. So I've developed coping mechanisms. I listen to books on CD's while I go through the day and I rarely sit for more than 5 minutes at one time. But I let my mind go which is even better than relaxing. I still have that part of me that's watching over my gang, making sure the doors are locked and no one is swinging from the chandeliers or jumping on the beds. But if I don't protect my mind I'll go crazy. Sitting and meditating is really hard or just doing nothing... That really doesn't happen. I try though.

It is very hard for me to relax at home, since I do also work at home sometimes. There is always so much that needs to be done.
I go out on my boat with girlfriends and water ski. And sometimes I go for a massage.

such a good and funny question! i had to request two mental health days (yest & today) to recharge my battery b/c, whew! i was just running out of steam. i'm a single mama to a beautiful 2.5 yr old but i HAD to have a break!
i had NO intent on cleaning the house, doing errands, etc. but of course i did those things! but thankfully, only a little. what good would my mental health day be if i worked the WHOLE time? so yesterday, i DID relax & watch a corny LMN movie, and today I actually napped for 2 hrs w/my little dog! wonderful days for me.
i should add...i still need to put clothes away, mow the yard, blah, blah, blah, but i still relaxed today! :)
so now, i'll be so happy for the wknd w/my son & ready to work again on monday. thank you God for mental heallth days! :)

No, not really. I am looking forward to going on vacation in November (which kind of seems like a lifetime away from now). I'm thinking maybe I'll be able to relax a little while we're on vacation, if I can get DH to take the kids and go do something for a few hours without me... (a girl can dream!)

Not nearly enough....and almost never at home. Now that I have a teen & a tween, I squeeze in my relaxing as follows: kid1 @ guitar for 1/2 hour - take a book and read it in the car while I wait,kid2 @ piano for an hour - take a nap in the car, or put a blanket in the grass @ piano teacher's house and read a book, kid2 @ the barn to ride horses - take the newspaper and catch up on the news while she tacks up, kid 1@ football weights, take kid 2 to the playground during weights - spend part of the time playing with her and the rest of the time reading a book...doing some cross-stich...etc. I used to run errands during this time, but have recently decided to take the time for myself...and it's a good thing. :) But relax at home...not so much.
