Disregarded Present

I bought a New Years bottle of champagne for my boss/supervisor. He left it at work over the holiday - which I understand because he had to go out of the country for business. But, now, it's in the fridge at work. It's not Dom Perignon or anything, but I do feel a little put off that it wasn't even taken home (believe me - I know he's a drinker!, so it's not that it's alcohol).
I know I'm being petty, but wouldn't you at least take a gift home (or re-gift it?) if you know the gift giver would see that you aren't interested?
This is a happy hour kinda place, so I might just be jumping the gun and see if it's opened at work.
Thanks for another vent, mamas. Just an overall crappy week.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Yeah - you all are correct. Like I said, I don't mean to be petty and I would NOT say anything to him. It's seriously a crappy week and I'm taking everything personally! Shocking. Maybe I'll just take it home, buy a big straw and lock myself in with a bubble bath. :)
Thanks - I know there are more pressing issues out there...

This happened at my office once too. I was not the gift giver, but did get to share in the wine at the end of the day :) and when my boss opened the bottle she did tell everyone it was a gift from so and so and that she wanted to share it with all of us.
I wouldn't say anything......my guess is he'll open it up one of these days at the office.

Are there any openings at your office?!

:)

Why not just remind him it's there? Or make a joke, are you saving that bottle of bubbly in the fridge for when you announce my promotion?

I can understand...It is kinda rude though...but because in the grand scheme of things it is minor in comparison take it home and drink it yourself...! You can imagine my surprise when I saw one of my friends regift one of my items in front of me...Don't sweat the small stuff. I hope you have a bettter weekend.

How did it get into the fridge at work? Did your boss put it there? If not, and someone else did while 'picking up'... he may not know that it is his (or hers) and doesn't want to take someone else's bottle.
If he/she is the person who put it there, do they routinely use that fridge.. I mean, like, DAILY? They might have just forgotten about it. You said they went out of the country for business... I would imagine that they have had a lot of important things transpire/be going on in their head, and maybe just plain forgot.
or, given that it was a "New Year's" bottle of champagne, perhaps they are waiting for another celebratory event to transpire to warrant popping the cork on it? My hubby and I drink wine/beer frequently... but we left a bottle of champagne in our fridge for a year. We were sort of waiting for an "occasion" to open it. Since it was still here from last New Year's (2009/2010) and we had family here on Xmas, we drank it then. (It was still yummy). But we don't drink champagne that frequently... so maybe your boss doesn't either and has a full fridge at home...

Try not to read too much into it. Whatever the reason, I'm sure it doesn't have anything to do with how much they value you at work.

I wouldn't make a big deal over it or even notice. At my job we have two bottles of white wine from a party we had in 2004 still in the fridge. That's just sad. Stop reading into it, really it's not that serious

or

it could be he just doesn't like what you got him and doesn't want to even bring it to his home.

Either way it is his gift to do what he wants or not. Don't sweat it. You gave the gift now let the gift go. It will be alright, it's not yours anymore so you disregard it.

Loved your post about the big straw. I'm still laughing. I'm such a visual person. Have a great weekend and upcoming week.

If it is still there in a month take it home and drink it yourself. Or take it home today and end your week on a bubbly note! We do not give gifts in our office at all, and I hated it when it was done years ago in another job. Who to give to, where to stop, I would get gifts from someone in another dept and not have a gift back for them, my boss would give me a gift certificate and then my gift seemed small in comparison, etc. My current company has a policy of no gifts amount employees for all those reasons and I prefer it that way.
Enjoy the weekend.

Champagne is often a special occasion drink (not necessarily, but often), so maybe he's waiting for something? A good quarter or something?
