Dishwasher Woes

We purchased a new GE Profile dishwasher about 3 months ago, and I recently noticed that after the wash cycle there is an inch or so of standing water in the bottom. It never completely drains, so I don't feel like the dishes get clean, even though they look clean, because the dirty water is in there. Anyway, they are sending a repair man out to take a look at it, but I was just wondering if any of you might have had similar problems with this dishwasher. I always rinse the dishes first, but I guess it could still be some kind of clog. Thanks in advance!

What can I do next?

I had the same problem, but it was a much older dishwasher. The repairman took the drain apart and found a rubber valve from a sippy cup and some broken glass. Guess the glass was from a broken dish, but the valve still amazes me. We don't use that kind of cup, so that thing had been in there since the previous owners had lived there--over 3 years! So, my only advice is to get as deep into the drain as you can without damaging something and see if you have a stray piece of something stuck there. Good luck!

Yep!

Mine had some small pieces of glass in the bottom from when I dropped a glass and it broke.

It took me and my husband about 20 minutes to get the dishwasher apart (he's handy), clean out the glass and 20 minutes to put it back together again.

Since it's only 3 months old I wouldn't worry to much about it. Your warranty should cover it.

Make them take it back........sounds like a lemon. Use your "outside" voice on the phone when you tell them that you want another one. In these tight times, it's the least they can do....in fact tell them that. Good luck and God bless.

Ask the repairman to check that the plug that was installed in the dishwasher drain outlet at the factory isn't stuck somewhere in the drain hose. We went through 5 very high-end dishwashers before discovering that the plumber who installed dishwasher #1 had never installed one before. If this is the issue, it should be a very simple fix - and a relatively cheap one, too.

Good luck!

We have had the same issue with out dishwasher, except NONE of the water has drained. We are currently handwashing everything. Let me know what happens when you have the repair man out. We have an older model GE machine. My husband was trying to diagnose the problem online and it indicated there might be a problem with the cellinoid (sp?)

have a good one. good luck with the dishwasher!

I have a GE profile and hate it. Its barely over a year old and all the buttons don't work and worse, the latch on the door catches and if you have to open it to add something ,....the dishwasher doesn't stop and sprays water everywhere. I am not happy with GE, the only reason we have them is the builder put them in before we purchased the house.

This is normal. Most, if not all, dishwashers do this. Read in your manual in the troubleshooting section.

We had a GE dishwasher do the same thing, and I hate to say it, but it took about 8 repair visits before they finally just gave us a new dishwasher. Keep track of the repair visit date, I think you have 90 days from the date of service to have them come back out again without an additional fee. Hopefully our problem won't be the same as yours! Ours would drain a cycle or two after the repair guy left and then back up to its old tricks
