I noticed when I use my dishwasher, there is water that does not go away at the end of the cycle.The water just sits at the bottom of the dishwasher. Has this happened to anyone before? I am not sure if I need a whole new dishwasher or if its something I could be doing wrong, or need to do. I bought this house in April and the prior owners said they never used the dishwasher so the dishwasher is perhaps a couple of years old. Any have any ideas? I really dont want to have to buy a whole new dishwaser is its something simple that I can do.
sounds like something got trapped in the pipe. Common items are baby medicine syringes, or valves from sippy cups. I have had it happen a few times but luckly I live in an apt (is that luck? ha!)I know it isn't hard to fix but I can't tell you how to do so. Maybe call Homedepot or Lowes. Good luck. and NO it isn't normal to have the water there. in time the washer may flood over, so save the wet floor and try and fix it soon :)
The best way to find out is to locate the website of the manufacturer of your dishwasher and send them an email. They will most likely take a couple of days be answer your question thoroughly. Be sure to be as specific as possible and include whether the dishes get clean and if you're using jet dry and anything else you think may be important. Good luck!

Dishwashers have a sump pump with a backflow valve in them. Either the valve has given up or more than likely, there is not enough height and drop in the line that comes from your
drain pipe to the pump. Look under your sink and see if the hose is low, loose and flopping. You will probably need a repairman to fix either problem but at least you will know what to ask . The hose will need to be unhooked and drained and maybe a new hose installed. This is a lot cheaper than a new pump,valve or new dishwasher.

Check that the drain line is not clogged. Also if you have slow plumbing (possible buildup in the plumbing where the diswasher drains) it won't allow the water to go down thus causing it to back up into the dishwasher.
I had the same problem with mine and it was just clogged up. My husband replaced the drain hose with a nice flexible one that would not kink and allows the water to flow better. Also in the bottom of the dishwasher there is usually a filter or something that sometimes gets clogged. I personally hate my dishwasher becuase I have to wash the dishes before I wash the dishes, if you know what I mean, or the stupid things gets all clogged and spews the dirt back on the dishes. YUCK! But who can afford a new dishwaher.

We had the same problem. The maintenance person for the dishwasher said that a little amount of water needs to stay in the bottom. I can't remember why, but our dishwasher ran fine. I would seek more opinions, but we were told that was okay.
We had this happen before and it wasn't the dishwasher. It was our garbage disposal that was clogged and caused problems in our dishwasher. We replaced our disposal and it didn't happen again. Not sure if it's the same thing, but I would definitely have it checked out.
When my dishwasher did that, at first they tried to find a clog, but in the end I did need a new one. Mine did the exact same thing it sounds.
