Discipline.

We did a list of house rules. (Use very simple language.)
Posted it in the kitchen.
Reviewed it 2-3 times per day.
Also posted consequences for breaking a house rule.
Tried to be as consistent as humanly possible in enforcing.

Btw, positive reinforcement is important right now, as independence grows. So make sure to "catch her" doing good stuff too. Lots of praise.
Good luck!

Less is needed for kids this age. They just need consistent rules and consequences that make sense to them. If they don't eat they get hungry later when you're out running errands.

If they don't put on their coat they go out and get cold. They won't do that more than one time. Of course you don't want them to get sick but feeling the cold once or twice will show them why they need a coat or snow boots.

Natural consequences teach a child what happens if they don't do a needed thing.

Love and Logic, I prefer the classes to the books but that's because I'm more of a visual learner.

My SIL just recommended to me "New kid by Friday" or something like that by Kevin Leman (I think). I haven't read it- and I probably won't, just because I don't feel the need but if she were to give me a copy in hand I'm sure I'd peruse it :)

I mention it because her son just turned 4, and I have a 3 y/o and I think that's why she recommended it. She said it had it was an easy read and reference and lots of easy to implement tips that are already helping her.
