I take that stuff and I have to tell you, I just can't do it everyday or otherwise, I do get very anxious and jumpy.. Therefore, I can see how this might also affect a little one. My son is allergic to Dust Mites, and he takes it, although I don't give it to him every day, maybe every third if that. It may work, but knowing how it makes me feel, I limit how much I give to my son. Can you do it every few days? it's pretty potent stuff if you ask me.
Also, Dr. Mercola who has a FREE website talks a lot about allergies and alternative remedies. check out what he has to say.. he does discuss Autism as well (although you weren't asking about that)
Dr. Mercola does seem to suggest that a healthy gut (since most of our immune cells are located there) is vital in order to fight off such things as allergies . therefore, for both my son and me, I am looking into probiotics.. I want to see if those work...
But yes.. that Flonase and other allergy meds can make you quite fiesty.. believe me.. I know..

Flonase has not caused any issues but Singulair did.
My daughter has been on Flonase for years, she is 16 to no ill side effects.

Singulair casued my son to be a monster. He was very emotional, violent, spastic.

I know some kids who become hyper on Benadryl. Most kids fall asleep. . My daughter cant take ibruprofen in any way. She becomes completely hyper and cannot settle down at all.

Good thinking on the chiropractor thing. They work wonders!! My oldest is on Flonase, and he does not have any symptoms as you describe, but he is a pretty laid back kid.

I can honestly tell you that behavior problems are the #1 issue with kids on allergy meds. The pharmacist told me so. Several different one with different companies.

The Walgreens one told me that the dose is the key. If you "CAN" take 100mg. of some med but only 25mg will do the job and you'll not have any side effects then why take the other 75mg?

The Pharmacist who owns her own business told me that most people just give their kids whatever med sounds good and that they are not created equal. I can't take any pill form of Tylenol. The filler is something I can't handle. I can take the full dose if needed of the adult liquid Tylenol but if you give me a pill of it I turn red and start sweating like my pores are little faucets.

The other pharmacist echoed the other 2. He said the #1 problem he finds parents asking about is kids going wild after taking the med. He wonders if it is some artificial sweetener that is found in so many kids meds or is it the med it's self. Is there some dye or additive that just sets these kids off.

My thoughts are based on what an allergy med does to my sinuses and what it does to my mood and how dried out, how much pain, how many times I get a bloody nose, etc....

Kids take a med, it dries them out in the mouth, the sinuses, their drainage starts being a super glue string they are constantly trying to swallow down or gag up. They are miserable but don't recognize what their body is telling them. It is telling them they are too dried out and that they took too much medicine. It is telling them that they're feeling like they are on drugs and on a bad trip.

Keep trying. There will be one that works for you. But please use liquid when possible and try 1/4 dose at first. If the symptoms stop then you have reached enough med. If he starts the acting out them reduce it. Even if he has a little bit of runny nose but it's less pain and agony in the nose for the child then that is progress.

Well, it IS a steroid. Since you noticed a change almost right away I think it's a safe bet that it's the Flonase although it could also be the transition of going from summer vacation to starting school as well. This is why our neurologist never starts her autistic patients on a new medication at the beginning of the school year. She always waits until three months into the school year unless it's an emergency situation.

I use Flonase and haven't had issues, but I'm an adult. I wouldn't use it on my middle daughter (who has Autism) or my other daughters either just because of their ages. I do, however, give her 10 mg of Claritin every evening with her other bedtime meds. I get the generic for myself and just share it with her per doctor approval (both pediatrician and neurologist). If she has additional issues such as a cold, then she has a saline solution spray and dye-free cold medication.

It's a steroid. Twice my son was on steroids for illness. Both times his behavior was horrid!!
Check with the pharmacist about the dosage your allergist recommended and if the side affects are worsened by other meds your son is on. Allergists are awesome for allergies, but probably not familiar enough with your son's condition.

Well, I have no experience with flonase but my son has SPD and possibly pdd-nos and we gave him benadryl a couple of weeks ago because he got stung by a bee and let me tell you what the next couple of days were awful and I was pretty much crying for 2 days because I could not figure out what was going on. Can you try taking him off for a couple of days and see if this improves his behavior?

My son has been on Flonase for 8 months and it has controlled allergy symptoms and not caused any behavior issues. It seems unlikely that it would result in poor behavior, the timing could be coincidental.

have you tried a sinus flush with a naughty pot I believe thats the wrong name but sounds like that when peoples say it. but that might help n yes your son may have a allergy to the flonase. it works on my son but he says it bothers him after a week. I know a chiropractor who does everything natural in Centerline Mi if ur ok with that area let me know.
