Diarrhea Won't Go Away!

My 11 month old came down with a bout of diarrhea last Tuesday and it is still lingering. Is this normal? We did the whole Pedialyte thing, gradually introduced the BRAT diet, and it went away for a day, but now it is back. I did reintroduce the formula, so that may be a cause, but I feel like she needs her nutrition too. No formula for a week? I tried switching to soy, but she HATES it. Any suggestions to get this to go away would be appreciated!!

What can I do next?

I fed my kids (at that age) rice cereal mixed with banana babyfood. They loved it the first day or so and when they became picky I would switch in babyfood applesauce. It can last up to two weeks. I always hated using the BRAT method, I always thought it just masked the really problem.

Don't fret. Our family went through the same thing last week. I would call your pediatrician though because rotovirus is going around and you must keep your child hydrated. All the good bacteria has probably been lost in your childs intestines so you need to feed him some yogurt to replace that (try YO baby) it is organc and doesnt have all that added sugar. All the brands geared towards children have so much sugar and do not have all the GOOD bacteria needed. Also try gatorade that is what our pediatrician said to do. First though contact your doctor.

Not what you want to hear, but we had a bout that lasted closer to 10 days, if it doesn't let up in another day or so I'd call your ped, or sooner if she is showing signs of dehydration.

My 11 month old just got over this. Everybody else in my house had the stomach flu, but he had this constant smelly diarrhea. He didn't want to eat, and he didn't like the pedialyte. It did pass, but it lasted almost 2 weeks. I was never so happy to see a "normal" poopy diaper!

I would take my child to the doctors office. By your child only being 11 months old, she could easily get dehydrated. Hope this helps.
