Diaper That Lasts All Night?

My 6.5 mo. old son recently started sleeping through the night (yay!). However, around 3AM every morning (he goes to bed at 7:30) he wakes up fussing a little because his diaper is full and his entire front is wet. Is there a diaper out there that is absorbant enough to last all night? We use Huggies but bought some Pampers to try, but they were worse. I thought about trying a bigger diaper, but he is in size 3 diapers, which are supposed to fit up to 28 lbs and he is only 19 lbs. Won't the next size up be huge on him? Any suggestions would be appreciated so my little one (and my husband and I) can sleep!

What can I do next?

Huggies makes an overnight diaper that works pretty well. My daughter is 22 months and we still have that issue. She's also in 3's but I get 4's for over night. Luvs is also a good brand. If you get the next size, even if it is huge, it should help him from leaking.

I believe it's huggies that actually has the overnight diapers that are extra absorbant. Try that. Otherwise go to the next size up. The size 3 says up to 28 lbs and my 2 year old went up when she was around 20lbs. But that was pampers. I think because you have to snuggly fit the tape part you can go to the next size up no problem. Good luck.

We had a very similar situation with our son. The diaper that ended up working the best for us was the Costco brand diapers. My husband is a Consumer Reports fanatic, and he read in there that the Costco diapers rated higher than any of the name brand ones, so we decided to try it. They did better than even the "overnight" specific diapers.

Good luck!

K.,
I too had this problem, and eventually found that the solution was to go up in size. In fact, evry time I went up a size in diapers, it was because I needed a diaper with larger capacity, not because my child had gotten bigger! My youngest suddenly started leaking (and I mean dripping) all over the place this week, and I know now that I need to move him up one more size, even though the fit of his current size is fine. Somehow the larger size always fits, even if it is a bit large.
Hope this helps!

Congratulations! Sleeping through the night is HUGE! :-) I wouldn't suggest the next size up yet; however, when we went through this same stage with both of our children I used the generic brand of diapers. Target's brand worked GREAT for us. I only used the name brands when given to us. I don't know that this will solve your problems with the wettness but it can't hurt to try! Good luck!

Just a thought but how about putting piose pads in the diaper to absorb the extra.

Hi there!
Another mom suggested this below, but I have to wholeheartedly recommend Huggies Overnites. Sometimes they're hard to find, but I think I get them at Safeway. Usually they are right next to the pullups and trainers. I LOVE them and they work great! A little more expensive, but a package lasts a month since you only use them at night. I will also occasionally use them if we're going to be running around a lot for a few hours, like going to the zoo, where I might not have easy access to changing him.

Definitely try the next size up just for night time sleep. We also used Huggies good nights which were pretty good. But our son would wet through anything at night. What we finally discovered were diaper liners. They are pretty much giant maxi pads that you put into the babies diaper and it adds absorbancy. I have bought them at safeway and Albertsons.
Good Luck

Hi K.,

I don't know about an ''all night'' diaper, but there are things you can try. Perhaps put two diapers on him. Take a small cloth diaper and fold it to fit inside the paper diaper. Invest in some 'plastic pants'...maybe they are called 'rubber pants'. I'm an older mom, and when my son was a baby and used cloth diapers, the plastic pants was a must to go over the cloth diaper. With my daughter I used Huggies, and never had a problem. Hope I helped a bit! Good luck!

Try using "diaper doublers" I think you can get them at the grocery store or online( a giant pad that sits inside the diaper) you may need a larger diaper so that the pad can fit.

The next size up might work. Also PODS from www.pottytrainingsolutions.com They can go in the diaper to increase absorbancy and they're sized for toddlers rather than a huge pad for adults.
