I am having a diaper dilemma! My son is over 2 now, and he's been wearing the regular Huggies diapers since he was a baby. I have always liked them, but lately the size 6 diapers have been getting too tight on him. I don't think they make a size bigger than 6, do they? Anyways, so I decided to try the Huggies Supreme to see if they would be roomier for him. He has been wearing the Supremes for about 5 days now, and I've noticed a couple of problems. First, when he sweats a lot his inner thighs are turning green (the same color as the diapers!) Second, he has been leaking through his diapers every night now! He wakes up super early because he has leaked through the diaper, his clothes, and the sheets! By the time I clean everything up, he can't go back to sleep!
Has anyone else noticed these problems with the Huggies Supreme? I want to go back to the regular Huggies, but they just seem too tight. He isn't ready to be potty-trained yet, so I don't know what to do. Any suggestions would be great! Thank you
Thank you for all of your responses! I am going to buy some Pampers diapers today, so hopefully they will be better. I agree that no diaper should be turning his legs green, so I will be ditching those! I will also work on not giving him liquids before he goes to sleep. He loves his milk and he always drinks it right up until he falls asleep, so that should probably stop! Again, thanks for all the suggestions. I knew I'd get some good advice!

Pampers! I never had any trouble with my son in Pampers but always had trouble with Huggies. My friend always told me Pampers for boys & Huggies for girls. I now have a little girl & we use Huggies for her. My son is potty trained now so we don't have an issue with him anymore.

The same thing happened to my son with the dye on the legs. I got upset because the green dye was right in his lymph area on his upper legs so I emailed the company. They said the dye is non-toxic and gave me coupons but I went back to the huggies baby shaped anyway. Why cant the diapers just be plain, no colors? ugg!

I have never used regular Huggies - never had any problem with the Supremes with my children.. You could switch him into the Huggies Training Pants - they come in bigger sizes - you have to put them on like underwear, but the sides rip off easily if you need to change them like a diaper.

We were having the same issue and we switched to Huggies Pull Ups. They have a nighttime version that is super absorbant. As long as we don't let my son drink a ton of milk before bed, he almost never pees through them.

I amm a mother of 7 and i have always used pampers for the first few months then i switched to the Walmart brand 'Parent Choice' they are roomier, i have a 23 month old and she is a big girl and they fit her very well...6 is the largest size and between 18 months - 2 1/2 is the recommended age to start potty training, i would agree although all kids are unique, I began training mine as soon as they were comfortable walking, then get more dedicated by the time they were 2, by the time they are 3 they have been out of diapers...by the way the 'Parent Choice' is fastened with velcro and they hold pee very well. hope i helped ;-)

Dear A. C,
My son has been wearing Huggies pullups since he was 2 and now 5. We have had the same problem and just switched to the pull ups. They are bigger and give the child more room. My son is not potty trained now because of some serious health problems resulting since his birth February 17, 2002. I have not seen the pampers baby dry size 7. So my advice is try the pullups they come in 2T-3T, 3t-4t, 4t-5t, 5t plus. or good nights s-m 25to65 pounds, l-xl 65-125 pounds. Just for your info. Any questions just contact me. M. petersen

My thought is to get those plastic pants in a large size and put them over the diaper? It will be uncomfortable when it gets wet, but that may be a good thing. You know, get him interested in potty training cause its uncomfortable. Plus it will keep your sheets dry at night.

Hi A.,
As many other moms have recommended, ditch the Huggies and change to the Pampers brand! Even when my daughter was an infant, we tried Huggies once and they leaked terribly, so we went to Pampers and have used them ever since. They feel softer and fit better in my experience. She is over 2.5 and still not potty trained so we use the Cruisers and also the Pampers brand of Pull Up diapers - usually we have a regular Cruiser diaper for sleep times (nap and night) and the Pull Up style for day use (as we are trying to foster more interest in the potty). For the nighttime leaking problem, there are Good Nights that might be worth trying for your son.
Good luck - I know that the super-early wakeups are a pain and I hope you can get things all dry and comfy again soon. :)

i know that you already got a lot of good advice (i read a few). i found that huggies are the roomiest though. they also have huggies overnight diapers maybe try those for only at night (i know not everyone wants to buy two separate bags of diapers like that). but my favorites are pampers and luvs!

It's time to buy training pants and train your child. In other words, it's time to drag out the potty chair. Much luck.

Go back to the regular size 6 Huggies. His butt will not be getting much bigger at this point. He should start growing differently now. He will grow a little slower now but his butt should stay about the same size for a while. He will grow up, not out.

Hi A.,
I have a 22 mo. old daughter and we just had to move her into Nightime Pull Ups to make it through the night without leaks. We aren't using the Pull Ups to necessarily do potty training, just wanted them for the extra absorbency and I like the fact that they have them in larger sizes than the regular diapers.
Good luck!

You can go to night time diapers or pull ups. I would change brands if they are leaking that much.

switch brands. No diaper should be turning your child "green". I use seventh generation diapers and have had minimal problems over the past 2 years (maybe 3 leaks at the most). Plus they are chlorine free and ink free! No toxic chemicals on my baby or the in the landfills.

I know it's not huggies....BUT Pampers JUST came out with size 7!!!! I saw them at Target last week. This is exciting for me too since my 2.5 year old twins are not potty trained yet. I haven't purchased them yet, as my son still wears size 6 just fine (barely!) and my daughter is a tiny little thing.
Check out the pampers size 7. There are two versions of pampers (just like Huggies) The cheaper diaper is called Baby Dry and the more expensive diaper is called Cruisers. I don't know if they make size 7 in both models. I think I saw the green baby dry box at Target. (but I wasn't looking for the Cruisers either) Good luck!

We do huggies for my almost 2 year old now, but regualr, i remember the supreme with my 2 oldest, i had the same problem. They had leaks, especially the boys. I get the big box of huggies from Costco, but when i find Pampers on sale we go that way. To tell you the truth i have even tried Luvs, and with all honesty they do the job just as well if not better, but they dont come in Mega Huge Packs like the ones at Costco. Targets always has them on sale. Thier worth trying.

Hi A.,
My daughter has also alwasy worn regular huggies, the 1 time I did buy the huggie supreme we had bad problems too. She would leak out of every diaper. Luckily I had only bought a small pack for a trip. I went to the huggies website & wrote them an email, they sent me coupons for huggies.
I make sure to tell my friends not to use the supremes because they aren't nearly as good as the regular huggies.

My son isn't old enough for me to have a sloution to your problem, but a few suggestions. First, are there pull ups or the special overnight diapers that would fit better? Second, I had problems with a few packages of huggies diapers, the tabs kept breaking. I emailed the huggies people off their website and got a ton of free coupons for diapers. I like huggies and only had problems with a few packages. I have found that cheaper brands sizes run smaller than huggies and pampers.

Size 6 Huggies is the max size for this stage.... however, you can try Pampers size 6, as I notice their diapers are a little bigger & wider in girth than Huggies. That's what I've done in the past. I like Pampers. Also, your boy is over 2 yrs. old now... so his diapers is probably leaking through because he is an older child and older children make more pee, in terms of quantity. Thus, baby diapers may not 'hold' as much. He can probably go onto more 'big boy' diapers... such as 'pull-ups' or try the night-time diapers they have for kids. Also, you may just have to change his diaper once during the night, so he won't leak through onto the sheets every night. Or, make sure he doesn't drink a lot of liquids a few hours before bed time. And, use a waterproof bed-pad right under him, so you won't have ruined sheets every night. If he leaks during the night you will just have to wash the bed-pad, versus the entire bedding ensemble. Always get at least 2 bed-pads...that way, when one is soiled during the night, you will have a 'back-up' to put back right under him, without disturbing him too much during the night. And, just clean & wash the bed pad the next day... no sense to wake the child and household just to clean the sheets during the night. (you can find the water-proof bed pads online as well, like Amazon etc.) or at baby stores. Hope this helps. This is what I've done with my 2 children.

Hi A.,
We switched to the Seventh Generation chlorine free diapers, they have no dyes and are fragrance and latex free. They are great and I have a 2 year old boy, they last all night. You can find these at natural stores, Whole Foods, etc. Thye are the same price as the other brands. These really are the best but with my older 2 I just didnt know about these so I used the Huggies and I know they used to have nite time diapers that might help. Good luck...

Well, it's been about a month for you on the Pamper's. Are you still having problems? My guess is yes. My son is almost 4 months older than your guy, and we had the same problem for a long time. We tried different diapers, like 10-15 brands, from store brands, to Luvs, Huggies, Pampers, even an online brand... they all leaked. The ones that did the best were Huggies- Over-nite's, but they stop at size 5. HUMPH! It was so bad at one point that I'd put him in a dry diaper around 9:00p (bed time) go in at midnight to change him again, then at 5:30a (when I get up for the kids I baby-sit) then AGAIN as soon as he woke up at 8:00a. (Yeah, the lack of sleep was really getting to me!) 4 DIAPERS- in 11 hours! While he was akake I'd only have to change him if he pooped, before and after nap. (Which worked out to 3-4 more diapers, so really it was about the same day and night. :-( ) The only thing that slowed it down was getting rid of the bedtime milk cups. He was drinking 2-3 9oz. cups of milk EVERY night! I hope you get it worked out soon. It's exhusting to be in the middle of it all. ~J.

I used the regular huggies on my son until he was about 6 months only because I could buy the big boxes at Costco for a lot cheaper than the regular store. After that he leaked all the time in them. Both the regular and especially the supremes. I started using the Pampers cruisers and they work so much better. The only time I've had a leak with those is when I accidentally left him in one for too long. And like one of the other mothers said, they do have 7's now. Good luck.

Hi A.
I was just informed about this amazing product. It saved me a fortune. Every night my son leaked through his diapers, his clothes would be soaked. It was a big pain. There are these liners you can find in the larger safeway grocery stores called "Diaper doublers". You insert them ino the lining of a diaper (they sort of look like maxi pads. Ever since we used them, we havent had one leak. I think you get like 30 of them & they cost about $3.30. Its much cheaper than paying $13 for a bag of 30 overnight diapers & they work terrific. Its good for long car trips as well. Good luck

I don't know your sons weight but my son was wearing size 6 diapers in the Pampers brand and Kirkland (from Costco) brand they both worked great for him. He was about 32 or 33 lbs when we stopped buying diapers since he finally caught onto potty training a few wks aog, we're still working on it but we've had some good progress, he's now in a cheap store brand pull ups that work well for us, he turned 3 this past May.
