Any recommendations for cream to treat diaper rash? I've been using Desitin regularly, and i guess it's ok. Last time we were at the ped, he prescribed us some stuff to mix in three equal parts along w/ Desitin and Cortaid. It worked to clear it up, but now he's got it bad again and this same concoction doesn't seem to be working. I've heard good things about Bouedreuax (I know I'm spelling that wrong) butt cream and even Bag Balm.
Just wondering if I should try something else before calling back the ped. It's just a couple small spots that are really red and almost look like broken blood vessels beneath the skin. Doc said last time it was a yeast build up. thanks! (sorry to ramble) Do I need to keep using the prescribed stuff for worse breakouts? Do you use something like Desitin every time you change even if there's not much redness? If there's a more natural remedy I'd love to stay away from prescriptions....
I like the Up and UPs brand by Target in the redish pink tube. its cheap and goes on like cream..works great too.
Home remedies is LOTS of air time on that bottom followed by a THICK THICK coat of vaseline
It's not prescription, but I've always had to buy it from the pharmacy counter - it's called Paladin. Works wonders! Good luck!
When my babies have really bad diaper rashes I use an over the counter anti-fungal then put desitin over to protect the skin from moisture. If your baby does have a yeast infection they need probiotics in their system. You can buy infant probiotic at a health store near you. If they still take a bottle you can mix it with that or with food if they are taking solids. The probiotics I get are in a powder form so it is easy to mix with milk or food. Good luck! Those rashes can be so bothersome. In the mean time you could give your baby a baking soda bath (mix baking soda with warm water) to help soothe the rash and plenty of time without a diaper just to air the skin out.
Boudreaux's Butt Paste is the best! It doesn't burn on contact like A&D does and it works so good with my daughter. She's teething and she'll be really raw, I slap the butt paste on and by the next diaper she's clear! Boudreaux's all the way!
I woould definetly recommend DR. Smiths Ointment it about 9 bucks but well worth it, ive used it on my daughter since she was a new born. I would put it on with EVERY diaper change until completely gone.and whenever wet i would spray water to diaper area and Pat dry( not wipe,to prevent more irritation), then dab on the ointment and leave diaper off whenever possible, it heals much fast that way, plus this ointment has 10% zinc oxide that really helps.

I have always had great success with Triple Paste. It's expensive, but it's always worked for me.
Ever since I did it once I have been hooked on using Lanolin Nipple Cream for breastfeeding mommies. It is so thick that it prevents anything from coming in contact with the rash and its safe to ingest so its definitely safe for a little bum.

If it is yeast then you need an anti fungal. I like California Baby, It says anti fungal on the tube.It's pretty awesome and I'm all about the natural! Baking soda baths helps a lot with my son too. It helps calm the red. My son hasn't had any help with the bag balm. Right now it's a good barrier, but nothing else.
I like the all natural Butt Paste in the green tube. It is great!
I would get some anti fungal cream. Sometimes they get little yeast infections and this will clear it up pretty fast. I get the generic kind, Lotrimin is the brand name, and you rub it on 2x/day. In between times I use Desitin, Beudroeax, or sometimes just vaseline. If it doesn't look better, even just a little bit, with the anti fungal in a day or so, I'd call the doctor, but try this first!
We have really liked Vitamin A + D Ointment. My husband worked in a nursing home for some time, and that is what they used. It worked really well for us. Best of luck!

We've used scorched flour that someone gave us and it works magic! I need to make some more soon and was just going to google how to do it. Doesn't smell great, but I will take the slightly burned smell over diaper rash any day!
Barrier creams like Desitin and the like will not heal a yeast infection, you can use over the counter anti fungal creams like Monistat or get a precription anti fungal cream from your doctor. Until the yeast is gone, the barrier creams are kind of a waste of time since they won't heal anything. Also, feed your baby lots of yogurt with active cultures; this will help to heal and prevent yeat infections.
I swear by Arbonne's diaper rash cream, it is THE BEST that I have used ever on my girls and withing 24 hrs the rash is usally gone if you would like to try some I can connect you with someone to give you some samples.
All four of my babies are very sensitive and diaper rash is very common. Bourdeaux's Butt Paste is the only thing that worked for us. They also have a preventative cream now that you can use when there is no diaper rash. With one of my children we would have to use an over the counter yeast treatment too, I think we used Lotrimin and also had to convert to cloth diapers. My youngest is 3 months and I didn't even bother with disposable diapers this time, we just went with cloth from the get go. One last thing that I have found to be VERY important is to change them IMMEDIATELY. I cannot even wait 10 minutes with potty or poo, I just have to change it right away.
I am sure you have done some of this stuff, but I hope it helps. I only ever went to the doc for it with my first child and from there just followed the same rules and seemed to win the battle. I never did do scripts.

We really battled diaper rash with our first two. Someone recommended Resinol....it is a miracle worker. It is not a prescription med, but you usually have to ask a pharmacists....they have always had it on hand when I've asked. It heals the diaper rash in 2-3 days. We saw a change by the end of day 1.
We have a 7 week old and are diaper rash free. I put Creamy Desitin on during every diaper change and have from day 1.
Air out the rash as much as possible... that will help more than anything. You could get a pair of cotton underwear (they make them pretty darn small!!!) and let him run around in that in a room with hard floors. That way an accident will be easy to clean up.
I had a friend swear that dripping breast milk on a diaper rash, and letting that air-dry will work wonders. My DD has never had a rash, so I haven't come across the situation yet, but it's worth a shot if you happen to be breastfeeding. (and it's free to try!)
I was going to buy bag balm for this, but when I researched it I found out that one of the main ingredients in it has been linked to breast cancer... so I decided not to chance it...
Honestly, I just use Vaseline.
It has close to nothing in it and helps my little dude so much.
I really like Bourdeux's Butt Paste. There are two kinds, one in a green bottle is their "natural" version, the yellow one is the original... I have use both and I like the natural kind... but they both work well.
If your child is old enough, try giving simple yogurt (like vanilla flavored) to them. Yogurt has pro-biotics which are helpful in preventing yeast infections. There is a yogurt out there called "yobaby" that my daughter loved as a baby!
Until the yeast infection is gone, you should use whatever your doctor gave you.Not all Diaper rashes are yeast though. Just try to keep the baby EXTRA dry.
Also- switch diapers if you are using "standard" disposables. Natural diapers - like the ones from seventh generation... have less harsh chemicals and fragrances than other ones... and those could be aggravating the situation. If baby is just around the house... let them go diaper free, or get a simple cloth diaper on them. The skin needs to breathe! Air can do wonders for a diaper rash!
I never use anything "all the time" when I do diapers... if your baby gets a rash every time you don't use a cream... either you need to change more often, or whatever type of diapers you are using are using are irritating baby's skin. A diaper treatment is a TREATMENT... fixing a problem temporarily- and if you don't fix the real cause... eventually your baby will start getting rashes everywhere you don't put the cream.

Don't you just love diaper rash? No really, I use the Bouedreuax in the green box. It has more natural ingredients and works well. If I see any redness I just plop on some cream and good to go. When the redness is gone, I stop. Especially when it's really red - change often - even if they pee a little bit. Stay away from these med creams - usually they have a lot of toxic ingredients that are not good for your baby. Good Luck!
