Diaper Dilemma

I used white cloud (a Walmart brand)with my first child and loved them. With this child a friend of the family bought me 5 bags of diaper and a case of wipes for a present. She bought the Parents Choice (also a Walmart brand). I liked them so much I kept using them. I have tried the other brands but always come back to them. My baby is a year old now and as you can imagine now that she is eating we get some really full diapers. They have held up wonderfully. The Parents Choice organic wipes are great too. Hope this helps.

Wal-Mart brand and White Cloud brand run smaller than Pampers, in my experience. But you might look online there are some sahm who sell some GORGEOUS and EFFECTIVE cloth diapers which hold it all and change EASILY I saw them at a recent birth fair, mom company based in Houston. Good luck.

I use the White Cloud WalMart brand. We started on the Cruisers, and she was always leaking! We've had a little tinkle on her outfit one time since switching to White Cloud. My daughter will be 6 months next week.

I've seen diaper doublers at Burlington Coat Factory. They are kind of like maxi pad things that you stick in the diaper to increase the absorbancy. For that matter, why not use a thin maxi if it comes out cheaper or more comfortable for her. Most of them have the same absorbant gel stuff as the diapers do.

I always use Huggies Supreme (Red Box) and they seem to work great...another alternative I have found that is Costco Diapers...they are identical to the huggies supreme. My son hardly ever leaked with those.

use the size 1 but put in on loose. tear a whole in the crotch
Then put on the size 2...You can do this with both size 2....

I'm not crazy about buggies either but I use the huggies overnites and haven't had a leak since.

Have you tried the diapers that are size 1-2, that's what i had to use for my son. They are a little bigger then a 1 and a little smaller than a 2.

We got lots of different brands ( as gifts ) to try when our son was born. Pampers were the worst on leaking. Huggies worked the best. I think we even liked the Walmart brand. We go to Sams Club now and buy diapers in bulk. Huggies brand is actually cheaper per cost of each diaper than the Members mark brand. Also the Members Mark formula is cheap and its the exact same ingredients as the brand name formula. We called our pedi and asked if that was ok to use off brands. They said yes it was the same thing. 20 bucks for a jumbo can of formula. It has definatly helped us...just a suggestion.

Try diffrent dieper brands. Huggies surprem are good. They wont leak. I have used both brand and huggies hold in the leaks. Also if you can try changing her dieper before you put her down. that might help.

Have you tried cloth diapers they seemed to work for me.

I used to put a maxi pad in the front of the diaper to soak up more pee pee! It worked for me!

K. I also have a 5 month old daughter and I stopped breastfeeding her at 3 months and went through the EXACT same situation. I tried all the advice that all the other people have given you and the ONLY thing that works is DIAPER DOUBLERS. Where I live you can only find them at Babies R US. They are cheap, and they work!!! I use Pampers Swaddlers Diapers, and my daughter fit better into the size 1-2 for a while, and you can also get those at babies R Us. The Diaper Doublers is the brand name, and they are like inserts that you put into the diaper. My daughter has been sleeping through the night since she was 2 months old, but the soaking through her diaper didn't start happening until I introduced formula. Huggies dont work any differently than Pampers. And Luvs do NOT work. Diaper Doublers. Good luck.

I used Huggies through both of my son's 'diaper days' and was very pleased with them both times. So pleased that I would not ever consider using a different diaper. The Natural Fit were my favorite, but the regulars worked great, too. If that still doesn't work, I'd consider using diaper covers made for cloth diapers, but just put them over the disposable diaper at night. Best of luck to you!!

Try a different brand diaper. I would also recommend to put a pad underneath her so you do not have to change her and all of the sheets every time she leaks through.

As far as breastfeeding is concerned, congrats on nursing her for as long as you have. Just wanted to add, that 4 month old breastfed babies wake more often and it is normal. She could be going through a growth spurt or if she is not nursing as much during the day because she is busy, she may be making up for it at night. I nursed my son frequently during the day so he would not want to eat as much during the night( he still wake but he would only wake one to two times instead of 3 or 4). If she is gaining weight, peeing and pooping she is getting adequate milk from you.

You've gotten a lot of diaper responses, so I can't really help you any more there. But I can share a trick we've found to be helpful, that may make your nights nicer (and naptimes, too!), since the occasional leak or spit up will be inevitable for a long time.

We put three layers of sheets in the crib, with a large waterproof pad between each one. If the top layer is soiled, just strip it off, and you have two more clean layers underneath. No more changing bedsheets in the middle of the night! We also found it helpful to always put the same sheet on the bottom, so we would know when we were down to the last one. Hope it helps.

I think they make some kind of doublers that you can put in the diaper. They are kinda like a maxi pad with out the back.

Huggies has night time diapers that hold alot more pee than regular diapers do. I'm not sure what size they come in, though, if they will be small enough for your little peanut. Just an idea. And I love my Ultimate Crib Sheets. Good Luck and congratulations that she's sleeping well.

After 3 kids, my first choice was the Kirkland brand at Costco. My second choice was Pampers Swaddlers and the Pampers Cruisers. I didn't like the regular Pampers or Huggies.

I used the Huggies OVERNIGHT diapers when my daughter was little...they worked great. We also like Pampers during the day. I'm not sure what size they start at though, and they're sometimes hard to find. I know Babies'r'us and Target carries them.

Have you seen the 1-2 size that Pampers makes? I used them for a bit and it seemed to help.

Sometimes when they start leaking it is time to move up a size. Even though the current size may fit, the bigger size will be better. You could also try changing brands. I have tried every brand out there and love the Pampers Cruisers.

My son used pampers until he was about 5 months old also but they always seemed to leak and not hold much in and yes it is very frustrating at night time. I was not satisfied with huggies what so ever and that was from when he was first born. I just could not understand how the diapers could cost so much and not work that well. I started purchasing Parent's Choice (the Wal-Mart brand)for day care to use sincethey changed his diaper about every hour and it was barely wet. Well, i noticed how well they were doing once we were home. He is right over two and we still use them and i have no complaints. They are also very cheap in cost. I get a case for about $13. They have the small pack for about $6.00, try it and see what you think.

It sounds like they are just too big. If the 1s are too small, maybe pull them tighther. I don't know, we use cloth diapers.

BTW, it is not unusual for a 4-5 month old to want to eat every 1/5 hours, nor wake up 4 times a night. It doesn't mean you weren't producing enough, it just means she had higher needs than some other babies you've heard. Sorry, but breastfed babies don't usually STTN this young.

Hi K.--I know you said you're not crazy about Huggies, but the diapers we found work best at night are Huggies Overnight diapers. They are extra-absorbent to last all night.

go to babies r us or diapers.com. pampers swaddlers has a size 1-2 and 2-3 that are an in between size. i had the same problem. this is really the only brand that does and unfortunately hard to find. they NEVER have them in grocery stores/target/walmart.

I used pampers the 1st 4 months and felt the same about huggies... BUT my 7.5 month old was moving more and Huggies were not cutting it (even though they sent me GREAT coupons!). I moved to Pampers Cruisers. They are more expensive, yes, but they do work for her overnight. 8p-7a. (no she does not sleep through the night like she used to... I also think because my breastmilk was not enough to sustain her through the night. BUT that is what I use and I love it. It also moves with her through crawling etc... When breastfeeding her not-so-solid poops would not "blow out" either. THey did with the Huggies.

Yeah I was using pampers too but I switched to huggies and they are great!

they have the little input that will help alot. All you do is add them to the diaper in front and it helps.

Diaper Doublers. $2.99 for a pack of 30 at Babies r us. Just slap one inside her night-time diaper. Love them!

i had the same issue. with pampers and luvs. i use nothing but huggies now. they work great and they dont give her diaper rash at all. and the make a size 1-2 which i got for my daughter. because like your baby girl my daughter was a little to big for 1's but not ready for 2's and they worked wonderful. i hope this helps have a wonderful day. I would agree huggies overnights. I don't care for regular huggies. I use Pampers during the day but was having your problem at night. Since using the Huggies overnights, not one leak thru.

I had the same problem, my daughter refused to breast feed by the time she was 4 1/2 months old. I hated having to get up and change her clothes too. We switched to pampers swaddlers and that seemed to do the trick. Also I found that the HEB brand diapers (Baby supreme fit) work really well for my daughter.

There are inserts for disposable diapers to make them hold more. Over night diapers also hold more.

My son used to pee up a storm at night. I used to have to use two or three inserts and an over night for my son.

I bought the diaper doublers at Babies R US for $2.99 a package. They are great for night time.

I use cloth diapers and I have found they leak much less then the disposables as they seem to be a better fit. You might try getting a diaper cover (I believe she'd be a medium) and putting it over her disposables at night also. Something that adjust at the leg AND the waist might be what she needs, like the Mother ease covers. On this link you see the snap adjusted cover on the left and the velcro on the right- the velcro one looks like it has great coverage at the legs, although the snap one on the left is what I have.

Huggies tend to work for our family. It sounds like you've got a good plan with getting that Ultimate Crib Sheet too. Good luck!

We switched to Huggies because not only do they fit better but better yeat does not leak IMHO. Or you can try cloth diapers since you are SAHM.
With our kids we've used Pampers from newborn to stage 1 then Huggies from there on. Hope that helps!

First off, congrats of breastfeeding so long, the diapers are so much more full now because babies can digest almost all of the breast-milk, but when we switch to formula they can not digest as much of it, so guess where it goes.

anyway, I used Huggies, night time. I love them...and hardly every had to change the sheets, usually when they went to bed early, like that happened often.

After my first got a little bigger and started moving around, the moving made her leak more and I was always tired of changing sheets, I bought a waterproof mattress protector, crib size, I cut the sides off, hemmed them, and sewed ties on it to tie them down to the crib rails. then if there was a leak I could peal that layer off and then get through the rest of the night, then wash the protector the next morning.

I don't know if they legitimately hold more or not, but I always had better luck and a better fit w/ Huggies than with Luvs or Pampers.

Hi K., I know you already got a lot of responses but didn't see this one (although I didn't read them all). I didn't know about diaper doublers but I found Huggies Overnights to be excellent. My son still uses the pull-up version (he's 2 1/2). I used them with my daughter too and there was a huge difference in the number of leakage incidents. You can't find them everywhere but in most places (Target, Walmart, BabiesRUs). Goodluck!

Hi K....we had the same problem. We used the next size diaper and placed a maxi pad at the waist. I read about it somewhere and it worked fabulously!

Our son was always leaking out at the stomach. We were unable to find the smaller overnight diapers in our area, and I didn't learn about diaper doublers until recently. I'm not sure what the cost difference works out to be with the other options, but the maxi pads worked well for us.

I had the same problem. The diaper was too lose but I didn't want to tighten it and make her uncomfortable. Just make sure the diaper is all the way up and make it snug on her. I have used Luvs, Pampers, Huggies, they all leak if the diaper isn't on tight enough or is a little big in the bottom area. My son now uses all of the 3 listed diapers. When he poops he poops a lot and sometimes it does come out the sides. So it probably isn't really the diaper it is just the way it is fiting at this exact time.

Try the Huggies Supreme. They have an overnight version too. We swore by those. I had problems with everything else--Costco, Target, Pampers, etc...I have a 2.5 yr old and am expecting my second in February/March. The ultimate crib sheets were good too. I usually put 2 on at a time, so you can take one off and have clean one underneath...just in case. C.

My daughter is 5 months and I had the same problem. I just started feeding her 30 min. to an hour prior to putting her down so I could give her time to get a fresh pamper before bed. I also use size 3 pampers at night (she's in a size 2) to help. Then I stopped midnight feeding. Our pedi told us to stop around 4 months. It only took her two nights to get the idea. I just held her until she fell back asleep. She hasn't wet the bed since. She also has a dry pamper in the morning not to mention the full night's rest we both now get. I hope this helps!

K. - I had the exact same problem and switching to Huggies (with Mickey/Minnie Mouse on them) did the trick.....I have never looked back! Good Luck!

I have two suggestions. The first one is try the next size up diaper. Until recently, I put the next size diaper on my son at night and he could make it through the night without leaking. Since you say 2 is big on her, I don't know if that would work for you or not. If I were you, I would buy the smallest package of size 3 and fold down the top (inside) to fit her body. If it doesn't work, at least you have a package already when it's time to move up to the next size. I use the Parent's Choice brand diapers during the day (Walmart's) and Luvs at night. My second suggestion does not really solve the leaking problem, it just makes your life a little easier during the night. It was recommended to me during my first baby shower to put a matress protector down, then the sheet, then another matress protector and another sheet. That way, if there is an accident during the night (leaking or vomiting), its a simple yank of the soiled sheet and matress protector and presto chango, the bed is immediately ready for her to go back into it. I had a fitted, padded mattress protector and then a sheet, and then a waterproof pad that just laid over the top, the size of the whole mattress and then another sheet. It sounds like a lot of work now, but in the middle of the night, you can do it one handed and it's a relief. Many blessings with your family.

My daughter is now 11 months old and I have tried many diapers throughout that time, my most recent try out has been Especially for Baby Supreme diapers from Babies R Us and so far I am very pleased for the price and quality. They are a little stiff compared to some, but it is not that big of a deal, they have stretch fasteners and that is a plus. I would recommend the diaper doublers with any brand diaper for night time use, I just tried these out as well when I was using Huggies and Pampers because those diapers did not hold up to my daughter's 12-13 hour stretches of night time sleep.
