I have a newborn who is breastfeeding and she poops constantly and spits up occasionally. The stains don't seem to be coming out of her clothes in the wash. Does anyone have any suggestions on detergents that are good for getting spit up and poop out? So far I've used all and Tide...

Thanks for your suggestions!
P.

Hi P.,
I find that pre-washing the stain and soaking in a couple of table spoons of peroxide and enough warm water to submerge the soiled clothes works really well. Oxiclean works great as well. One or the combination of both should do the trick.

I have a 4mo old bf baby and I've had good luck so far. I use Arm & Hammer (w/o dyes, perfumes etc) and oxiclean baby. Everything goes in warm water. I also rinse out pop stains in the sink with soap and warm water (not perfectly, but to get the worst of it) and use a Shout pre-treat stick. I've had very few things not come clean after one washing. I am careful to check the worst offenders before I throw them in the dryer. If there's still a stain and it goes through the dryer it's a lost cause. Good luck!

My son went through 2-3 outfits a day in his early months. We often called his onesies poop filters. I used shout and soaked every thing in the washer before washing. I used cold water & I would check every thing before it hits the drier. (I was always told heat sets stains) If there was still a stain I would have to repeat wash items. The good news we never had to throw any thing away.

Hi P., Shaklee's non-toxic laundry detergent works great. In fact, just two days ago, I was caring for my four-week-old granddaughter - it was just the first time my daughter-in-law had left her since she was born. She pumped enough milk for the few hours they would be gone, so I was all set. The baby had a grand poop (sorry to be graphic) that went up her back and soaked through her little outfit leaving deep yellow all over her car seat liner, an infant hat that was apparently beside her at this point, and also the changing table terrycloth cover! What a mess! After cleaning her all up, it was time to get the 2 1/2-year-old ready for bed; so, it was an hour or two later before I took the time to address all the soiled laundry. I used the Shaklee laundry detergent as a pre-spotter on all the items and then threw them in the washing machine. I added the detergent in the receptacle for it and mixed up some Nature Bright (which is Shaklee's non-toxic laundry booster and whitener - it is powder so you mix it in a cup with warm/hot water and then pour it right in on top of the detergent in that receptacle) and started the wash. I was thrilled when I pulled them out to check them before tossing them in the dryer, as every stain was totally out - except for a little on the brim of the infant hat. So I took the little hat, put a dab more laundry detergent right on the stain and scrubbed it. What was remaining on it, came right out; so I rinsed it and threw it in the dryer. My son and daughter-in-law were delighted to hear that it worked so well, and she asked me to order her both products. She uses many of Shaklee's cleaning products as well as their baby shampoo & wash, but had not yet tried the laundry detergent. As you have probably guessed, I am a Shaklee distributor. try oxobrite. you can find it at wholefoods. when the clothes get soiled have a little bucket or something in the bathroom or laundry room so that you can just rinse a little in the sink and put a scoopful or two in the container and fill with hot water. i usually soak things a day or two hang to dry and then put in the wash. oxobrite is an oxygen bleach (non chlorine) it works on everything practically. once i spilled wine and made the mistake of wiping it up with a dishcloth i liked. as soon as i put the dishcloth in the hot water iwth oxobrite the water turned dark purple and the dishcloth just floated there perfectly white. i dont know how it works...haha. it won't bleach anything like clorox does or change colors since it's very natural but still works if you do a couple soaks on old stains.
biokleen also makes an oxygen bleach which i buy when they're out of oxobrite but oxobrite seems a little stronger.

It's all about the "soak" cycle on your machine. Use is and almost anything will come out. We do a "soak" laod once a week for poop stains.

It's the simpilest thing, you'll laugh, but it works! After you wash her stained clothes, hang them out in the sun to dry. In about an hour, the stains are gone. Even on colored clothes. It's like the sun is a natural bleach. I heard abou this and tried it. I couldn't believe it either. And it works on poop stains that have already been washed and dried before.

My daughter is 6 months old. I rinse off the poop, then lightly handwash her soiled clothes with a pure soap bar. I use either Sunlight or Sards Wonder Soap which I got from Australia, sorry I don't know the equivalent here, but as long as it's a pure soap it should work. Leave the soap on the stains, don't rinse, then soak the clothes for 24 hours in a bucket of Oxi Clean Baby, stirring them occasionally, before putting them in the normal wash.

It gets out every stain, every time. Even old existing stains can be removed this way.

Hope this helps.
