I have three daughters but I am having alot of problems with the ones hair. They are biracial, my youngest has a different texture of hair so I can leave it down without and problems. My oldest can do her own hair. My 7/12 year old has beautiful hair when it is wet. Once it dries look out. She has very kinky little tight curls and they frizz up when it dries. I have had it professional straightened and she was not happy at all. I want to try to find something to put in her hair so that I can atleast leave it in a pony tail without it being all wild when she comes home from school She gets upset becuase she can not wear it like her sisters. She is beautiful no matter what I do with her hair but i would like some variaty. Would love to hear from people who have the same problem and how they dealed with it.

What can I do next?

I asked this same question recently. Here are the responses I got. Some were very helpful.

The best thing that is working for us is to 1) find the right balance of products and 2) to not wash it very often, and 3) to keep it twisted, braided, or in 2 side puff ponytails. One ponytail doesn't tame her hair for very long.

I'm using the heaviest moisturizing shampoos and conditioner I can find. Dove, Pantene, and Garnier Frusctese seem to really weigh my hair down, so they are great for her! I am using the Pantene Relaxed and Natural creme leave in conditioner and it is really great. It turns her kinky frizzy hair into thick shiny curls. It looks terrible and is all stuck to her head in the morning from being wrapped up in a scarf at night after she sleeps, but if I rewet it with a spray bottle in the morning the curls snap back into shape. If we don't put her hair in a scarf it gets matted and nappy and turns to dread locks.
A couple times a week, if her hair is down, I put conditioner in her hair and leave it on while she is in the bathtub and rinse that out. I then put another layer of creame leave in conditioner and spray a little detangler in it.

The easiest way to keep her hair from getting matted, nappy, etc is to section it off when it's wet into ponytails all over her head and then braid or twist them. Easiest everyday hair is 2 side ponytails high up on her head.

What does your oldest do? Does she have any tricks? What about any girls at school? Can you ask their moms? My cousin's son is biracial, but being a boy, it is short and kinky, and oh, so cute!

Sorry, I can't be more help.

Can you braid it or put it up while it's wet? I would take her to a salon that is knowledgeable and ask about products.

K. i used to wash my daughters hair and leave the conditioner in her hair for a couple of days and she was able to wear it curley or in a pony tail without the frizz, after a couple of days i would use pink moisterizer lotion that i purchase from the beauty supply store.

Try Mixed Chick hair products. I've heard good things.

I have to have my daughter's hair braided. We do it every 4 weeks. We leave the braids in for 2-2.5 weeks, and then I take it out, wash, dry, and flat iron it. Then it is like mine. She LOVES it down, but it takes SO long to do..and the mornings can be tough. But it looks amazing. I used Paul Mitchel shampoo, Kera Care shampoo, Kera Care conditioner, then Kera Care oil when I dry it, and the Kera Care Creme Press to flat iron it. It's a lot of product, but it protects her hair from all of that heat.

Check at a local CVS... I know they have products to help with what you're dealing with. While my family isn't biracial, one might think just from hair texture, the boys are. : ) Of course they all got that thick, heavy, tightly curly hair... The women all got stick straight thin baby hair... I was the only lucky one to have somewhere in between.

If you wash her hair everyday, I'd try to switch to every other day to start but condition it every day. I also would suggest using your fingers like a pick rather than use a brush, comb, or plastic pick.

Man... I'd love to sit and play around with her hair.... I'd be trying all kinds of things to get it to 'ringlet'. Anywho... I think one of my uncles used to use a combination of a natural relaxant w/natural oils that he purchased from CVS to get his to stop the frizz.

Good luck!
