Dealing with Hemorrhoids

Get some Dr.Pilsner's ointment.I don't know where I got mine several years ago, but it's wonderful. It really works. You might try Whole Foods or even look on the internet. Also look up www.hemorrhoidmiracle.com I hope this helps.

I had the same issue my last pregnancy. My midwife told me to take grape extract capsules and a B-6 pill. I think they were 100mg each. I still get "issues" occasionally and will take this for a few days and the problem is gone. I have not had these for as long as you so I would think that if it is a constant problem you make seek out some medical advice. Good luck.

I got them so bad I couldn't sit down, I've even had to have surgery. My kid's pediatrician told me that they heard Butt Paste worked for hemoroids and they hadn't had any feedback. I tried it. They were gone in 24 hours. Its marketed as a diaper rash cream, but it works good on so many things. You can find it at Target.

My hemorrhoids flared up AFTER the birth of my 10.2 baby boy. I don't remember having problems with them while I was pregnant and I had a Csection. I used all the creams and suppositories, wipes - everything on the market. I had to have one lanced one time because it was so painful - turned out to be thrombosed (had a clot). I eventually had to have the surgery because they wouldn't/didn't go away on their own. I had the 'traditional' surgery because laser surgery for hemorrhoids was still fairly new - if you have to have the surgery, opt for the laser if that is an option for you. I will tell you that the recovery was the most unpleasant experience of my life and that I wouldn't wish that on my worst enemy - however, I have not had any recurrences or any other problems since.

You can do a sitz bath - where you sit in warm water that covers the butt and hips...just soak, this allows more blood to reach the 'affected area'. It eases pain and swelling. I don't know anything about it, so I can't give you a recommendation on that, but it is something I found when I was looking up a couple of things to answer your question.

I Got one from having a big baby six yrs ago and still have it from what I have been told it never goes away it can shrink up but you will keep having flair ups. I think you can go to the doctor and get them removed but I'm not going to go there. Lots of the time I can't even tell its there and then it will flair up and I am like great. I'm due with my fourth baby in a few weeks and its only flaired up a few times. I have some proctofoam from the doctor and that shrinks it right up. Good luck! My 89 yr old grandmother got one with my uncle about fifty yrs and she still has it so go figure. =)

My three sons were all 8-9 1/2 pounds, Thank goodness I did not have this problem. My father-in-law has had them for many many years. They have come along ways now with dealing with them. They now use lasic surgery and he had many and went 2-3 times and had no pain what so ever. I would contact a good Dr. and have it removed. His was in the Dr.'s office even.

I didn't read through the responses, so someone might have already suggested this, but try taking Rutin. You can get it at any health food stores. It is good for any kind of Varicose Vein - including hemorrhoids. Just make sure you are getting plenty of iron as it seems to effect that.

I had the same issue after having a 9lb 5 oz baby. I had them solidly for 2 years and then they did seem to abate. However, I had another baby last year and of course, they are back. Have you tried the suppositories or protofoam? The cream that actually goes up and inside is much better for reducing them. Then, taking colace or something like that really helps as well as it softens your stools and helps you NOT have a flare up. I am still hoping that this will once again only be a 2 year ordeal for me.

Hi. I know how you feel!! I had a 6 lb baby 12 years ago and I get them ALL the time. They do go away (or shrink down???) but they come right back. I honestly don't think they ever completely stop. However I have had 2 girls (both were 6 pounders)since then, so maybe that is why they are still there. I get a Rx cream from my OB/GYN and that helps. Maybe he/she can do something for you. I have a freind who had hers removed (hemorrhoidectomy)and she is SO happy for making that choice--easy recovery, so that could be an option too. Good Luck!! :) C.

I've had them for 25 years since I delivered my second child. She was face up instead of face down. After delivery, I did not have a BM for over a week. They sent me home with a sitz bath and some Colace.

Generally, I don't have problems with them. I had my first colonoscopy about 2 years ago and a few polyps were removed for exam without problems. (They even gave me pictures to take home of my hemorrhoid and my colon!)

When I do have a flair up, it's usually after a bout with either constipation or diarrhea. Spicy food can also come out as spicy as it went it. If things get too uncomfortable, Preparation H gives relief. Tucks or a generic witch hazel wipe is terrific for putting out the fire quickly.

Mine have never required any other kind of treatment.

I had the same problem after a huge baby--dr said that surgery was not an option until after possibility of pregnancies passed. I eventually had surgery after dealing with it for a long while. Not pleasant but nice to have the problem taken care of.

My mom has a friend who had problems with hemmorhoids for years. Hers was painful though, but she didn't want to have surgery. After a weekend at the beach with my mom (and suffering the whole time she was there - apparently she was having constipation issues at the time) she agreed with mom to go get them removed surgically. I have moved away and have not had contact with this lady in a while, but as far as I know the surgery got rid of the hemmorhoids completely and she said it was a very simple and pretty painless procedure. I believe it's an outpatient surgery as well.

After years of dealing with them - even before pregnancy - they finally got the best of me. I decided to have them removed. The procedure was easy enough but post-op pain was unbearable and put me back in the hospital. It took a full year before I was totally pain free and back to normal. I've heard others had better experiences but a friend of mine also had complications. Would I recommend the procedure? It's hard to say - I am glad I no longer have to deal with them in any way, but it was very difficult for me to get to this point. Even with the best doctor (mine was in Beverly Hills and told me I'd be playing tennis the next day!), you don't know how YOUR body will respond. All the creams, gels, pills, etc. won't cure and eventually they'll be less effective (my experience). Perhaps do research and talk to several doctors to get the most info possible. Good luck.

Ok, I'm just gonna say it. Sometimes you can manually put it back in place. In the shower works best for me with hot soapy water. Just push that sucker back where it belongs. Then wash your hands and don't tell anyone!!!

I don't think they ever go away once you have them. I don't think it will change given more time. There are several different procedure for removing them. I, too, suffer from them occasionally, but mine always shrink back down after a day or so. I've started taking flax seed oil capsules for heart health as well as hemorroids. I read somewhere recently that they add a bit of oil to your digestive track allowing for easier bowel movements. Good luck.

See a colorectal specialist for a diagnosis and a treatment. It's worth it.

I have no experience with this problem, but I've been told by a friend that BurnStuff (sold at Walgreens) works amazingly well -- better than ANYTHING else they've ever tried -- and I think they've tried just about everything.

Buttpaste. It shrunk up my external hemorrhoid that had been lanced because of a bloodclot. I thought nothing would help. I mean it. Baby aisle at Target. Extra strength.

your story sounds similar to mine- except I was hurting when I.. well- went to the bathroom. I tried everything and finally went to a specialist and found out it wasn't a hemorrhoid after all (although my OB thought it was), it was an anal fissure that needed surgical repair. A quick and easy surgery corrected the problem. I was down for 3 days and it took about 6 weeks to completely heal but finally- relief! I am scared to have another baby vaginally now! Apparently this is pretty common and almost always mistaken for hemorrhoids (not just from childbirth- people get them from straining and constipation etc...). Take care of yourself and if you want a good specialist to consult I recommend Dr. Robert Kline in Arlington. The visits weren't as embarrassing as I thought they would be because he is very professional (and so is his staff) and does his job quickly for your sake!

This is a bummer. So sorry. OK. Here goes. I thought I had H's after my 10 pounder. I finally got fed up and worked up the nerve to go to a Colon & rectal specialist. It turned out it was not an H at all and was several skin tags caused by a fissure that was related to child birth. Everything about it was like an H and even my OBGYN thought it was one. Turns out is was important to deal with and I had a scope procedure (essentially a colonoscopy) and now it is all healing up nicely. A few weeks later they excised the "things". Things to consider:

1. While totally embarrassing, there is nothing any more unpleasant about a rear check than going to the OB. I promise.
2. Before you go, if you go, for any of these visits, do yourself a BIG favor and work on you, uhhh, digestive health for a few weeks. Take fiber
EVERY DAY (Konsyl is liquid cardboard, but it works great)and try Activia yogurt. Take colace for any limited issues, but my doc said it can interfere with vitamin absorption if you take it all the time. Anything you do down there will be made 100 times worse if you are constipated, and will not heal.
3. Just make the call. Find out the options. All of them. If you end up like me and have to have a scope procedure, look on bright bright side, because you get a total check for cancer while they are at it. I think I am happier about my clean bill of health than being rid of the "things".
