My DD will turn 1 in a couple of months. Does anyone have ideas on how to celebrate this. I do not really have a lot of friends with 1 yr olds or girls. All of my friends children are at least 4-5 and are boys. I want to do something, but I also do not want to bore those people that do not have kids. HELP Also, I keep reading that at 1 children are interested in certain things like blues clues or pooh or whatever. My daughter has no preference, if she does I have not noticed it. Am I doing something wrong? She has tons of toys and she just plays with all of them. Should I be trying to get her to like one thing?
We're having my baby's 1st birthday party at Petland. They give you 2 staff people and bring in different groups of animals for everyone to play with and they talk about them. They also provide the party favor bags. I bet 4-5 year olds would love this
I don't think many one year olds have a preference for a specific toy or theme. My youngest daughter turned 1 in December and we had the same problem. We ended up inviting a few close friends and family (the few kids that came were my older kids' ages) and had a general "Now I'm 1" party. I had food, a jelly bean guess jar with pink and green jelly beans (the party colors), a matted photo of her where guests wrote her a message on the mat, and a guessing game for the guests. I had a tray of 15 things from her first year that everyone had a minute to look at, then I took it away and everyone had to write down as many as they could remember. The winner got a Starbucks card. We also got the birthday girl a water table for her b-day, and the older kids loved it! The cake looked liked stacking cups (one of her favorite toys). I got the idea from the parents magazine website.
Good luck and don't worry too much. The first birthday is more for you than for her. Just make sure she gets a small cake to mess with and you sing her happy birthday. The rest is just details.
This might sound a little weird, but for my first daughter's birthday, I was in your situation, no friend's with babies. We had a good ole fashion party. I served PF Chang wings, blue margaritas, lots of delish finger foods and instead of cake, we had Cheesecake factory cheesecake. My daughter had her own cake as well (I made her a cake that looked like the caterpillar from Baby Einstein videos out of cupcakes) and we had the party indoor/outdoor. She ate her cake outdoors so I could easily clean up and hose off her high chair afterwards. The pictures turned out wonderful, everyone had a great time and we had a wonderful turnout, around 40 adults, some of whom had older children. Needless to say, you don't have to have a child's birthday party yet with the bounce houses and such, your daughter won't enjoy it yet anyway. You will have many years of bounce house parties. We did a lunch party (hot dogs in a crock pot... very easy and finger food). We had a little bounce house for the kids... which covers boys and girls and we did a pinata. I also set up a table and covered it with paper(like butcher paper) and put crayons out for the kids to color on as they wished. Not a bored kid in the bunch... well, maybe during present time!
We just had a big backyard cookout with family and friends and invited everyone's kids to come over and play. I think the first birthday is more for the parents celebrating getting through that first year!! lol
For my daughter's first, we had a party at home with family and close friends. A few of my close friends had children varying in age and a few cousins. We served pizza and wings and had birthday cake. It was fun and it was a nice close group so no one was bored. Good luck!
We had a party at our house with just close family and friends over to celebrate our daughter turning 1. She only has one cousin who is alot older than her. The party turned out nice and it was just fun to see everybody again. We just served snacks, cake and drinks.
