Due to both my husband and I working, both of our children have been in daycare since they were 3 months old. To make things go more smoothly, I'm not sure there is really anything you can do except maybe talk about how much fun it will be and point out anything he has really liked when he was there. My 3 1/2 year old started preschool in January and was at in-home with my 1 year old before that, and for socialization there really is nothing better than daycare or preschool. In addition, my preschooler has come home with new songs he sings, he is learning to write letters, and spell words, and grasping concepts I thought he wouldn't learn until kindergarten. I highly encourage it, I am also in education so the benefits are highly researched and proven beneficial for all children. For speech purposes it will most likely help him, but don't assume it will cure it, he will still need speech therapy.
