The real key is having her keep her legs together instead of spread. That positions everything aiming down instead of out.
My DD is potty trained, finally!! (She is 26 months) Here is the problem though; she has a hard time getting her urine in the toilet.
When she goes, her urine basically shoots straight out, instead of down if that makes sense. It gets on the floor, her legs, etc. She does a good job of remembering to sit back on the toilet and I notice that she tries to position herself so that doesn't happen, but sometimes she forgets. So....is this normal or not? I'm planning on calling her dr to ask, but it seems a little strange to me.

Normal. She needs to lean forward or--better yet--sit backwards!
This is normal. Have her lean forward when sitting on the toilet.
I was just going to say what everyone else already did...have her lean forward. :) I think it's fairly normal too.
My daughter has done this a few times, too, and it usually requires new underwear and pants afterwards! I have since told her to keep her legs together and lean forward - no more problems! Sometimes she even crosses her shins and says "I don't want the pee pee to get on my pants." :) It's all part of the potty training process - they are curious and want to watch it come out.
I have to remind my DD to "point down!" Otherwise, it shoots all over! She'll get it, it just takes time.

Could just be the direction of the urethral opening. You could tell her to lean forward when she's sitting on the toilet, that should help. I think it's normal but of course the doctor will be a good resource.
My DD did the same thing and like PP's I had her lean forward, that solved it for us.
