Let me start by saying we have a Dr appt scheduled for this Friday but just wanted to see what you moms thought. For the past few weeks my 4 year old daughter has been complaining of her hip hurting. (Its actually her side that she is referring to..) you know when you run and you get the cramp in your side?? that is the area she points to. She is never running or being too active when she complains. She will just be walking along and let out a little scream and say "my hip hurts" and she will grab her side. Its ALWAYS the left side and the same spot. It passes quickly and does not seem to bother her if you touch it. What do you think? thanks for the input.. We will see what the doctor says this week.

What can I do next?

Well, the left side of the body is home to the stomach, spleen, and sigmoid colon, also the left kidney. The way you describe her pain, could it be gas? That would be my first thought, because you say it passes quickly and doesn't hurt to touch her. Try taking note of what she eats and drinks, her bowel movements, and her activities just before the pain strikes if possible. Write it down, and take it with you to the doctor. Be as specific and detailed as possible. Then you can see if this is truely random, or if it seems to be related to something in her routine. This will help tremendously in getting an accurate diagnosis, especially since it's unlikely the pain will strike her when you are actually at the doctor's office. Good luck!

My duaghter complained of stomach pain. Turns out after an exray that she was impacted! Poor little thing was terribly constipated. Doc had me increase the amount of water she drank, gave suppositories, and laxatives and made her sit at the same time every day to train her body to evacuate everyday. Doc said active kids forget to go or are embarassed around other kids. But if you put stuff in everyday, stuff has to come out everyday. Check her bms to see how often and the consistency to see if that could be a contributing factor.

I know that's where my husband was hurting when he was a kid. He has told me the story several times. It is thought to be when he went through a sudden growth spurt.

Hope you get some answers!
